Leaking. Thats what i do.

Well, I'm still leaking urine. Hyst was on April 23rd. On May 2nd began leaking. When i walk, bend, after i use toilet, while im sleeping, i leak. I was able to get into the surgeons office on the 8th. I expressed that i was leaking and thought it was from vagina. He peeked inside, even swabbed with large q tip. But didnot agree or disagree with what i thought was going on. He did say, problems usually occur when your still in hospital. And if there is a problem nothing could be done for 2 months. Ok. gave me antibiotics just in case of infection, and Enablex. He did say my bladder may be looking for a home. told me to come back next week. Have appointment this friday. Im confused, worried. But doing better than last week. I cried continously. I have been praying alot, and trying to think positive. This is what has been handed to me, and i have to just face it. Things could be worse. I just want an answer. I havnt been having the urge to urinate really. It just flows out. If i feel myself begining to leak i try to get to bathroom so i can dribble. Using big ol poise pads. Poise pads at 42! LOL. Did anyone have ALOT of leakage and have it resolve on its own? Could my bladder just not be happy, and "trying to find a home"?

Re: Leaking. Thats what i do.

It sounds like you may have a fistula. If your surgeon won't do anything about it can you get a referral to a urologist?

Re: Leaking. Thats what i do.

I went back to my hyster surgeon because I was leaking. He did the blue dye test, but it flooded back out soaking the tampon from the bottom up. So he took a Qtip and swabbed the vaginal cuff. No blue. However, I was not satisfied, because we KNOW our bodies! He referred me to a uro/gyn. The ury/gyn sent me for a cystogram. Sure enough, that fistula was there. I saw it for myself on the x-ray screen.

I asked my uro/gyn what were the chances of it healing on its own. He said not much chance at all at 6 weeks post op. Well, guess what!!! It healed! Since Easter weekend I have had no leaking at all. I went from using 2-3 Poise pads a day to nothing at all.

Today, I went back for another cystogram and it confirmed no leaks. (I'm now 11 weeks post op) So I have not noticed any leaks/wetness, and the cystogram found no leaks. It's healed! I prayed to God asking for Him to heal me if that was His will. Otherwise, I knew I was in for the fistula repair surgery and that was upsetting.

Yes, if you can see a uro/gyn, I think that would be best.

Re: Leaking. Thats what i do.

I prayed for you last night that God would heal by his command, or work through the hands of a surgeon. Hang tight! You really do sound just like what I was going through. Yes, for about 2 weeks, I cried all the time. I would just bawl. The doctors at first suspected I had incontinence issues too.

I suspect they would want to do a cystogram. Very easy procedure and takes only about 5 minutes. That's what verified my fistula. I cried while I was there - pouring all over the place. The doctor and the techs were so kind. The radiology doctor place his hand on my shoulder and reassured me that it could be surgically repaired.

Oh, in case you did not know, the surgeon looped my bladder while suturing the cervical cuff. What was supposed to be a 2 hour surgery ended up being 7 hours. 2 blood transfusions. I was sent home with a cath/foley bag and had the cath/foley for a total of 11 days. They wanted to give the bladder a chance to heal. I was told that I was at risk for developing a fistula. Sure enough...

You do sound like you have a good and strong attitude, shihtzu3. I tell you, a positive attitude makes a lot of difference.

I also agree that you should ask to be seen by a uro/gyn. They specialize in these things.

yes, don't wait on the surgeon. You know this is not right. I too pray you will heal on your own. I also had a fistula, but I had to have mine repaired via surgery. I had a Ureteralvaginal fistula. They need to find out what kind you have so, yes I agree with 'four seasons' you need to have a Cystogram.

Re: Leaking. Thats what i do.

Hello Hystersisters. I have read this thread and other similar ones, and I was wondering if someone could explain what does it mean by the bladder is looking for its new home? I am 3+ months post op from a TVH with the A&P repairs. Feeling great. A couple of days ago started to feel the urge to go but only when sitting. It is driving me nuts! I wonder if it is the bladder "finding a new home"? Also, would that also cause me to "spray" at times when urinating? That also started recently. I apologize if I grossed out anyone reading this. Thanks for your thoughts and for sharing your experiences!

Re: Leaking. Thats what i do.

nuevavida,

Find a new "home" for the bladder is because when your uterus is gone your remaining organs "settle" into the new empty space. As for spraying when you urinate, I would suggest you make an appointment to see your doctor. You might have a problem with your bladder or urethra. If you do ask to see a urologist or urogynecologist.
