It is common knowledge that Lupron is used to treat the symptoms of prostate cancer in men so I am sorry you were not aware of this use. It is on many websites including the home page of the Lupron.com website which shows prostate cancer first and then endometriosis, fibroids, and central precocious puberty (CPP), a puberty issue in some children. In all cases, the goal is for Lupron to interrupt the body's hormone production signals and thus reduce testosterone in men and boys and estrogen in women and girls.

Many medications start out as treatment for one condition and are later found to be useful for other health conditions, sometimes related and sometimes not.

For instance, many anti-seizure medications can help those with migraines. Anti-depressants can help manage chronic pain and menopause symptoms. The medication Clonidine is used for blood pressure, ADHD, hot flashes, anxiety, and pain. I even used a prostate medication to help with a kidney stone and one of the warnings on the bottle with my name on it said, "Not for women or children!"

Re: To Lupron or not to Lupron?

I have been on Lupron now for three months. I am due to go back for my 3month injection later this week. I was really nervous about it at first because of all the negative reviews. I have had some side effects don't get me wrong. But the side effects are easier to deal with than the constant pain I was having. I had hot flashes, as well as mood swings, My joints ache a bit, but other then that I have not had anything to noticeable. I would suggest you try it for 1 month and see how you feel. You can always have monthly injections, and if you tolerate3 them then you can have a 3 month injection.

Re: To Lupron or not to Lupron?

also you can get another hormone to counteract the side effects. Ask your dr about it.
