Surgical Menopause

How long does the nightmare of menopause last? This is all new for me and I had both of my ovaries, tubes and uterus removed with my cervix intact. I had a smorgasbord of everything I was told so the only solution abdominal surgery. I had the surgery done February 28, 2012. I had an active life prior to this. I feel helpless. I walk everyday, take black cohosh, etc. this story is getting too long to tell, I am getting frustrated.

Re: Surgical Menopause

I had the same surgery in August 2011 and I have been dealing with hot flashes, etc. since then. Don't know how long it is going to last but it certainly isn't fun. I am on Effexor for the hot flashes but had to drop the dose down because it was causing some vision problems.

Re: Surgical Menopause

I would think age factors in?? I am 50 so I am hoping it won't be that long?? My mother was done menopause before she was 55, so.....don't want 5 years of the sweating though...
Thoughts anyone?

Re: Surgical Menopause

Its been 8 years for me....No hormones no sleep, hot flashes, fatigue, the works... Its overnight surgical menopause, but I believe it takes years for our bodies to adjust....Everyone is different, its always good to have a Dr. you can talk to.... Good Luck on the journey... Cyn

Cynlong-8 years?? Are you in the age range for menopause anyway or younger? I'm 50 but 8 years seems a bit much for me at this moment honestly! You are amazing!!

Re: Surgical Menopause

I use an estrogen cream as when taking things orally , the liver can decrease the effectiveness. I am over a year and steal dealing alot with surgical menopause symptoms too. Hot flashes and nite sweats are the biggest, followed by mood swings and all topped off with lots of weight gain! I use valerian root so I can sleep too.
Good luck
