3 years post-op ... having severe hot flashes!!

Can this really be so? I know I had a very intense one just hours after surgery ... but the ones I have now are awful sudden and happen at the WORST times! Yesterday at work I had to hike up my pantlegs to my thighs, had my sleeves rolled all the way up, no shoes or socks and had an icebag on my head (and I work with the public!!!). I had surgery at age 31 and never been pregnant ... man my body is screwed up! Any young ladies out there with advice?

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

I am 34 and I don't have hot flashes that bad but I do get them every now and then I am always tired but can't seem to sleep and I have gained 20 pounds since surgery 7 months ago I am ready to go crazy! I kept both my ovaries and I have night sweats from time to time... I still feel like my body is half nuts not sure what to do!

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

I'm 42 and had my hysterectomy about one year ago. I was able to keep one ovary but I'm also on a hormone patch. I can totally relate to the severe hot flashes. Sometimes I just feel like I'm going to go crazy and just completely lose it from being so hot. And my " hot flashes" don't just come and go quickly, I can stay that way for 30- 40 minutes. I just don't know what to do anymore.

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

Well ladies we are all in the same position. I still have my ovaries and I still have hot flashes at night. I have not gone to the doctor to get on hormone pills but I take Estroven for moods (available over the counter) and hot flashes. I love this medication. I take it every morning and within 2 weeks I was feeling good. I also take Effoxer XR for Depression and I can say with these 2 meds I am alot calmer. I do have a small breakdown every once in awhile but not like I did. I suggest anyone to give the medicine a try. I buy my Estroven at Wal-Mart because it is cheaper (not the store brand - name brand only).

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

I was 32 yrs old when I had my hysterectomy and the 1st day home was when my ovaries had me thinking I was going crazy!! I had hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, anxiety, restless legs, mood swings, weakness, formication, nausea/vomiting.....ugh!!! I cringe to even think about my life before vivelle! Lol I feel like a drama queen but I had those symptoms for 6 wks until finally my hormones leveled out. I had the symptoms on and off for 3 yrs till I finally found a gyne that prescribed me patches. I too have both my ovaries and levels show normal but my body doesn't feel normal! I tried OTC stuff 1st and then went on from there. Good luck and keep cool

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

I had my hysterectomy at 31 and I'm now 35 and a year ago I crashed into menopause. I'm trying the estradiol patches right now .06 and it is really helping (when they will stay on). Sigh.

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

I am 38 and had my surgery 3 years ago. I kept my ovaries, but I am now also having hot flashes and other symptoms that make me feel like I am going crazy!

For one thing, I fly into rages with little warning. I am usually a calm person, so this is very disturbing! Today at the dentist office, my daughter and I had been waiting over an hour to be called back, and I lost it! I am leaving lots of people who think I've gone crazy in my wake!

You are not alone. My gyn told me there's no way it can be menopause, so I think it's time to find a new gyn. I know my own body!

Re: 34 years old, have ovaries ... having severe hot flashes!!

My doctor told me I would not have to take hormones cause I still have my right ovary. But a couple weeks ago she put me on a low dosage of premarin once a day and the hot flashes have almost completely went away. I can sleep at night now without having the hot flashes and feel much better. I had my surgery April 24th and I go back for my post opt visit june 11th. well good luck to you and hopefully they can give u something. Those hot flashes will drive u nuts!! Lol. Ur ovary may have died or stopped working or something the reason u are h aving the problems.
