Baffled/worried about pain i have

Day 26 and still get pains. I have been given motrin and percocet all this time. Unfortunately my dr getting worried and problem is I do have pain. Scared and he even said hes worried about Dependence issues. Which I totally understand. I even asked to give a different med to help. Scared as I keep telling myself Its not real and still comes and goes. Why do I feel so alone and not knowing what do next. my first post op is on Tuesday.

Re: Baffled/worried about pain i have

Kromeo- Try to keep a record of your pain- location, what it feels like, a number rating, what u were doing when it got worse (if anything), & what u take and the time u take it. It might help u see a pattern, & also will show your doc measures you are taking to help relieve your pain (showers, rest, ice, heat, tylenol, motrin, etc).
At my 2wk post-op appt my doc offered me more meds if I needed them, & I had a DvH also. I do have a long history of nerve pain from a previous surgery that he had diagnosed years ago (the surgery that caused the nerve damage was not done by my current doc). I didnt get additional meds from him, but only bc I see a pain specialist & I was able to go back "down" to the strength of meds they gave me pre-op. Did you have endo excised, or other "work done" during the surgery? Have u tried ibuprofen to help buy you time between med doses? (The ibuprofen was an absolute lifesaver for me after 1 surgery- I took it between doses of narcotics & it made it so I could gradually spread the amount of time between narcotics longer & longer).

I am sooo sorry you are still hurting (I am too). Keep in mind we all heal differently. Maybe your doctor will understand how you are feeling better when you see him/her? Have u been a patient with them long?
Sending you a nice, gentle sister!

Re: Baffled/worried about pain i have

I'm in a similar situation and two weeks ahead of you, so be patient -- it's still so early in the game! I'm surprised the surgeon is this concerned at 3 weeks. It seems there is a lot of impatience from surgeons with those of us who had the easy surgery and are still dealing with internal pain after three weeks. My surgeon usually sees people at 2 weeks and then never again. I went in again at four weeks with complaints of ongoing pain that doesn't allow me to sit for long, she seemed sympathetic but I found out later wrote up an exam report that completely neglected to mention the ongoing pain I was experiencing. She wrote 'occasional pain' and 'fully recovered'.

So I'm going to another doctor this week! They're human too. Don't be stressed because they have egos and don't know everything (just like the rest of us). Just find someone who is willing to listen and work with you.

My work nurse couldn't believe my doctor turned down my seventh week off work, she said she's never heard of a doctor doing that. She said six to eight for hysterectomy is normal regardless of procedure, let alone the additional complication I had of a very large tumor.

It's really hard to be feeling bad and then having someone as authoritative as a surgeon try to make you wrong for what you can't control. It's time for us to be our own best friends. And we're all here for you too.

Dependence! I hear you, that's something to manage. How much percocet at this time? Have you tried reducing the percocet to half a tablet? I still take it about 2-3 times a week in the last two weeks but only half a tablet is needed.

Here is an old thread on HysterSisters that might help too.

Re: Baffled/worried about pain i have

My doctor kept telling me I shouldn't still be in pain as time went by. I ended up having 2 cat scans done to rule out complications. At 3 weeks I was still in pain. I eventually was diagnosed with a kidney infection. I was told at the emergency room that I had a bladder infection from the catheter at surgery that went untreated and moved into my kidneys.I never had a fever because I was constantly on Motrin and Tylenol.I called the doctor a few times and was only told I shouldn't still be in pain. Please keep a journal of your symptoms and pains.
