Bladder issues 18months postop, as well as other questions

I had a partial hysterectomy 18 months ago. I feel awesome! However, i've recently started having an urgent bladder. No discomfort whatsoever, just don't need to go until I NEED to go! I know there's more space there, and I know there's a risk for bladder tuck necessity someday. Does this indicate a problem? The surgery REALLY helped the traditional, cross-your-legs-when-you-sneeze leaky bladder; I have no idea why. But now this.

COULD this be related to hormones, along with teeth issues? I know that medically this makes no sense, as I still have my ovaries, but medicine doesn't always explain experience or reality (aka old wives' tales!)

Have you talked to your doctor about your concerns? You could check with your GYN or GP.

Hormones can affect the bladder, but you would likely be having other more noticeable symptoms if you were having menopause issues.

I would go to my doc and let him know what is happening. I would also try to do a diary of when you go, how often etc. so that will help your doc. That way he may know if he needs to refer you to a urologist to check this out.

Are you taking HRT or do you think you are suffering from low estrogen? There can be some relationship between bladder pain/problems and estrogen but I think you would need to rule out other possibilities. I would suggest getting a referral to a urologist or a urogynecologist for testing. You can also request testing for your estrogen levels.

Re: Bladder issues 18months postop, as well as other questions

Thanks, everyone! As luck would have it, this started very shortly after my GYN visit. Just looking for input from other ladies. I must say it was so nice for awhile as I didn't have any leaking when coughing or sneezing after my surgery. Now it's just urgent, but no effects on frequency. Glad to know about the hormone component on bladder tone. I am having other subtle signs, such as teeth changes that my dentist noticed and mentioned it could be hormones.
