Re: waiting is not my strong suit
I was diagnosed with endometrial cancer in January, and it took until mid-March before I could get the surgery. My gynecologist referred me to an gynecological oncologist in another city, 350 miles from here, where I could get the Da Vinci surgery. It took 2 months to get through the referrals, pre-op visits, pre-op testing, cardioechogram to make sure my heart would handle the surgery, getting the surgery scheduled, then getting it rescheduled due to a schedule conflict at the hospital. I kept feeling that time was slipping by too fast and it was taking too long to get the surgery lined up. I felt pretty panicky at times too.
One thing I have learned is that endometrial cancer is usually very slow to spread. The thick muscular outer wall of the uterus is a tough barrier for cancer to get through, so it usually takes a long time to spread. My pathology report post surgery showed that the cancer was limited to the lining of the uterus.
From what I know now, I would suggest you try to relax and use this time to prepare in other ways. Make sure your insurance paperwork is all taken care of. If you have a job, plan how to gracefully take a few weeks off with a smooth handoff to whoever will cover your work load for you. Plan how you will get the help you need post-op, as you should not be doing the grocery shopping, cooking, housework, etc. for a while after surgery, and you are probably going to have very limited energy for a while. You have about 3 weeks to work with, so use it well. The cancer is not going to go through any significant changes in that time frame.
I hope all goes well. Lot of hugs!
