Question - Tamoxifen-Hot Flashes and Yeast Infections Tamoxifen-Hot Flashes and Yeast Infections

Hi ladies,

Just wondered if any of you have been or are on Tamoxifen. If so, did you find you had recurrent yeast infections? Also, I am taking Gabapentin for hot flashes.

I just had a yeast infection about six weeks ago and feel like I've got another one. Curious about others' experiences with the Gabapentin and what they did for yeast infections, if it was caused by the Tamoxifen.

Thanks so much!

Hi there,

Well, I started off on 300 mg. of the Gabapentin but it didn't help at all. Then I found out that 900 mg. is what is recommended for hot flashes so my doctor did up the dosage. I have found that it is helping at that dosage. I still do get the hot flashes, but not near as bad now.

Thanks so much for the info. I guess we all have different experiences with the medicines. Glad you haven't had any yeast infections.

Re: Tamoxifen-Hot Flashes and Yeast Infections

I've been on Tamoxifen since Nov 2012 and have had 2 bouts of yeast infection. I'm having night sweats and hot flashes. I was having hot flashes prior to Tamoxifen. I started using progesterone cream and the sweats stopped. But, read on the internet that yeast thrives on progesterone, so I discontinued the progesterone cream. I've been using Gabapentin since 2008 after surgery for excision of a brain tumor. I use it to prevent seizures and for nerve pain. The dr. never told me it's good for hot flashes. I rarely take it. But, I'm going to try it to see if it will help.

I do not know about any connection to Tamoxifin but my miracle cure for yeast infections is boric acid suppositories specially compounded at a compound pharmacy. my OBGYN prescribed it and I will never buy over the counter stuff again if I can help it.

Thank you. I'll certainly ask my dr. to prescribe it for me.
