Questions about pre-op surgery, can I go swimming?

First of all, my uterus is falling and I either need to get a hysterectomy or have a surgery to push everything back up. Sounds fun! Does anyone know if I can go swimming in my pool OR in the ocean before I get this done? I'm going for my ultrasound next week so I wont be able to ask these questions until after that.

Also, how are these surgeries? How is the post op recovery? I've been planning to go down the shore the end of July for the past 6 months so wasn't sure exactly if I would be recovered by then? Ty all very much

chinesefoodlove,

As far as going swimming before you head into surgery...it shouldn't be a problem. Was there any indication from your doctor that it wouldn't be safe for you to be in the water right now? Swimming after your surgery...only after your says it's okay.

The initial recovery time after a hysterectomy is 2-8 weeks with full recovery taking up to a year for some. I'm not sure about your trip to the shore at the end of July? You'll want to discuss all of that with your doctor so you can make plans that will be best for you.

Best of luck to you!!

I agree with Meka40 - you should definitely ask your doctor before you make plans. You will need to be healed internally before he will release you to go swimming, usually between 6 - 8 weeks. Depending on when your surgery will be, the end of July may be too soon. Good luck to you.
