Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

Many women who have DvH go home the same day. I had a TAH and was in the hospital for several days.

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

I agree with {{{Catherine}}} in that a TAH is not necessarily more painful. It depends on how your body reacts to the surgery. I had an SAH and had no pain at all the day after the surgery. I only had some pulling from the incision when I moved. Odd yes, but that is what happened to me. I was really concerned about the pain afterwards and I guess I got lucky.

And as to muscles being cut, the doctors usually separate the muscles vertically rather than cut them no matter which way the incision goes as {{{Catherine}}} has stated. The big bonus on having it done vaginally is that you don't end up with a scar if you don't have one there already.

Once again, I suggest you talk to your doctor and make your wishes known.

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

I had daVinci and was surprised I seemed to be in more pain for much longer than most of the TAH ladies posted about. We are all different and our doctors all do different things inside so you can't really predict how you'll be until after your own surgery!

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

Thanks ladies. My doctor did say I would be in overnight. I just hate the thought of staying in longer.

I also had a tummy tuck and was scheduled for a LAVH And ended up with a TAH. I now have a slight over hang where I was cut. I am not please with this at all . May have to talk DH about a mini tuck if it doesn't work itself out.

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

I had da Vinci on Thursday and I was in the hospital until Saturday. I had a lot of pain that was hard to control, and I was running a low fever. They tell you just one night but it really depends on how you do and how the surgery goes. I am having a pretty tough time of it; I really thought it would be a piece of cake but everyone is different.

Cath, it makes me feel better to know I'm not the only one who didn't breeze through the da Vinci surgery

Was in 3 1/2 days with TAH BSO. Was told that was a normal average.

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

I had TAH, removed everything. My dr. Said I was not a candidate for vaginal because my fibroids were too big. In fact, he said trying to do it vaginally could ruin me! Enough said for me. I didn't have my vagina sliced open, in fact everything was done thru my abdomen. I had no vaginal bleeding after the first day in the hospital. In my opinion the other surgery options appear to have a lot of side effects.

Whatever you decide be certain you're comfortable with your decision. It took me 30 years to agree to the surgery and nobody can make your mind up but you. Oh, and the doctor works for you and should be able to answer all of your question. I'd write the, down.

Be blessed!

Re: Can I request abdominal hysterectomy?

Check into Da Vinci. Nothing has to come out the vagina then, all mine went out the small incisions in the abdomen. And I also had an enlarged uterus and large fibroids

Hi Melian

It's the 26th here in Aus so I am assuming you are out the other side. Been thinking of you and hoping all went okay.
