?, suprapubic caths

i just had fistula repair surgery june 18th, was in hospital until yesterday, my original hys was dec.5th 2011, was catheterized with foley cath jan. 18th, now i have a suprapubic cath. my friend, a retired nurse said they should have gave me a stopper for the cath, to keep infection from getting into bladder while taking shower, they never gave me one for the foley or this time, what do i do to seal it off while showering? or is it necessary? HELP! i really want a full shower in morning, but don't want to take a chance of getting an infection. AND when do the bladder spasms go away?!

Re: ?, suprapubic caths

Hi there! First off, I'm so sorry that you are having all these issues! Suprapubic caths are no fun. ((HUGS)) Yes, I would think that you would have been given a stopper. Call the MD. I can't really think of anything off the top of my head that you could do with stuff you have around the house or whatnot. I'm sorry I wasn't much help!! As for the spasms, I would honestly think they'd be done by now. Hmmmmm. . . . I'd definitely put a call in!

thank you for your reply, my dr. said to do nothing about stopping it up, they took the staples out this past tuesday, they have me scheduled for x-ray this monday and i see dr. right after, hopefully he will be able to take cath out. i haven't had a bladder spasm since thursday!
And i haven't needed a pain pill in.... several days or so!
i am just praying i am healed on inside so that he will be able to take this out monday

Thank you again!

take care!
