Re: Still Have Foley - DVH Pelvic Floor Reconstruction 06/25

I had a cystocele repair done 7 1/2 weeks ago and I had a foley catheter overnight in the hospital. I asked my doctor at pre-op if he had any suggestions for me after it was removed. He told me one way to try was to completely relax the pelvic floor and let things flow naturally. The next morning they removed the cath and I walked around and drank some water. The first attempt resulted in nothing so I continued walking and drinking some water. The next time I completely relaxed my pelvic floor and low and behold, it worked! I got to leave the cath at the hospital.

That's what worked for me. I hope your bladder settles down soon and you can have the cath removed for good. Rest and take care of yourself and I'm sending good thoughts!

Just thought I'd add my little experience to this topic! I had a DVH, kept one ovary, had cystocele, rectocele and perineocele repair and a mesh sling placed. I was discharged once I showed I could self cath. I had to self cath after every time I urinated until I had a cath ammount of less than 100cc twice in a row. So, I ended up self-cathing for around a week after surgery.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm hoping that I don't have to self cath after the foley comes out, but at the same time the thought of being home and having my bladder refuse to empty scares the heck out of me. I'd like to learn how to self cath and have the equipment on hand just in case.

I was unable to pee after the Foley was removed on Tuesday, so I came home from the hospital with a Foley Catheter in place. Went to the doctors yesterday, and was only able to void 100cc at barely a trickle. The nurse then got 800cc of urine when she catheterized me.

So the Foley is back in and we will try again on Friday the 6th of July.

The doctor said there was a lot of scar tissue between my bladder and vaginal fascia and separating the space between the two was very slow going. I had biomesh used to repair the cystocele. She feels that my poor bladder is just very irritated and needs more time to rest.

We don't think that the TVT sling is too tight. She said she is very conservative with the tightening of the sling, leaving plenty of slack. I was able to pass some urine, at a slight trickle, on Friday so I don't think that the sling has caused my urethra to be pinched, unable to pass urine at all.

Anyone else take this long to recover with a Foley?

Any suggestions on the best way to recover so that my bladder will wake up and work on Friday?

Anything I should or should not be doing?
i had a foley from january 18th until june 18th, the biggest no-no, i was told was caffeine, but i had a fistula and caffeine is a diuretic, best thing is PLENTY of water.

i had fistula repair on june 18th, i now have a supra pubic catheter, tomorrow i go for x-ray and i hope dr. will be able to take this one out.

i am hoping i can go when this one is gone!

take care

Thanks for thinking of me.

It didn't go well. I still have the Foley. I was only able to void 100cc, and the quick cath obtained 550cc.

I was given a couple of choices. I could come home without the Foley and keep trying to urinate and then use the quick cath to empty my bladder, or I could go home with the Foley this weekend.

So I went home with the Foley for the weekend, because I was concerned about being able to successfully quick cath. I know that if I were unsuccessful the only option is the ER.

So on Monday morning I will remove the Foley myself. Try to pee and then do the quick cath. I think I should be fine, but I wanted to wait to do it when I knew the doctors office would be open.

Aww, sorry.
Were the at least able to comfort you that it is a somewhat normal thing to happen and will get better with time?

Oh yeah, this is totally within the range of normal.

I had a lot of work done to my bladder. The vaginal fascia was really stuck to my bladder, she said it really bled a lot. After it was separated she rebuilt the anterior vaginal wall with biomesh.
