Step Aerobics

I am 11 weeks post op I use to do step areobics before op and would like to start this again. is anybody using step and if so how are you finding it? Doc did say I could go back doing any exercise I felt comfortable with but just worried that step may not be the right one.

Re: Step Aerobics

My doc told me I could do whatever I wanted, even an work. I haven't done step, but I'm going to start Zumba next week. We'll see how it goes!

Re: Step Aerobics

If you haven't already, I'd suggest coming up with a graduated 're-entry plan' based on your surgery. I tried increasing my exercise on my surgeon's recommendation after two weeks and created more inflammation, my internist told me to stop everything except gentle walks and I just got released at week 10 to start increasing my exercise. My internist said it's ok to be *a little* sore in the abdomen, but not a lot after exercise at this point.

My surgery was 12 days after yours but I had a laparoscopy so my incisions are not an issue now, it's all about the insides. I had a huge tumor removed, so my insides are still pretty inflamed. My goal is to increase my energy levels and get my muscles limber with stretching, without creating significant soreness in my abdomen.

My doctor said to experiment and be slow, so I have been. I increased my walking to power walking for 20 for a few days without pain so increased to 30 minutes without pain. So I added the elliptical for 10 minutes for the first time post-surgery, but am only working out total for 40 minutes and then I stretch for about 15. Stretching now includes my abdomen by lying on one of those large exercise balls and gently rolling around to break up adhesions. I think I'll probably stay at this pace for awhile.

I'm going to try a yoga class. I'm not going to try cardio classes for at least another month maybe more because of the bouncing.

The hardest part has been when I get into my groove is to stop at the marks I've pre-set (e.g., 20, 30 or 40 minutes). I've learned from earlier attempts I often don't feel the pain real-time, but later. And that sets back my healing.
