ruptured ovarian cyst - looking for information

Hi everyone. I'm Jenna and I am here because I just got home from the ER due to a ruptured ovarian cyst. After a CT scan, I was told I have multiple cysts, one of which ruptured causing my pain and I need to follow up with a GYN. I have had an endometrial ablation via Novasure in 2007. Just two weeks ago, I passed two large clots which hasn't happened since the novasure. I'm guessing it's all related and I'm really unsure where things go from here. I've been reading about ovarian cyst ruptures online and I'm confused why some people need surgery or emergency surgery for this and I didn't. They just sent me home with some pain medication and told me to go to a GYN. I'm confused and scared. If anyone can share your experiences about ruptured cysts I would appreciate it. I'd like to learn more because the dr said I have several. I don't get the impression that they are large.. but this happened to me a few years ago (maybe 2010). Same deal.. went to er with severe pain and they said I had "normal cysts" but one may have ruptured.

Re: ruptured ovarian cyst - looking for information

I am so sorry you had to deal with a trip to the ER and the awful pain of a ruptured cyst.My daughter used to get ruptured cysts when she was a teenager. We made 3 trips to the ER due to the horrible pain. Each time they did tests and sent us home with meds and instructions to see her GYN. She never needed surgery. Her GYN never seemed too concerned about the cysts. Acted like these things sometimes happen. After the three times it never happened again and it's been 10 years. I have no personal knowledge of myself, but thought maybe my daughters story would ease your mind a bit.I hope everything goes well at your GYN appointment and your feeling better soon.

Re: ruptured ovarian cyst - looking for information

I too had an ovarian cyst rupture after ablasion-I had a tubal back in 2003 as well, so the blood was backing up into my fallopian tube. I had a superacervical hyst on April 30th-kept the ovaries, but lost the tubes and the uterus. I had cysts rupture on the same left ovary after my hyst as well. I know the pain is excruciating. You need to meet with your gyn-write down questions as they arise and bring the notebook with you. Talk to the gyn about your concerns. Take control of your healthcare. Research and find out all you can, so you are prepared when you have your appointment. Don't put it off. If you have to have a hyst, or cystectomy (which I have also had) it will be okay-just find a doc or surgeon that you trust. Good luck and hang in there!

Re: ruptured ovarian cyst - looking for information

Update: I didn't have a ruptured cyst after all. The GYN thinks the ER doctor read the ct scan and made assumption because I have cysts on the top of my uterus (which apparently is from my prior ablation). No explanation for what happened to me other than after several tests and horrible cycles - they found that I am periomenopause. I have crazy symptoms like water retention, weight gain, irregular periods in everyway and my boobs hurt! Due to other complications dr recommending hysterectomy vs. any medications (I can't take estrogen). I am scheduled for this Thursday after many months of appointments and lab tests.
