Re: Ready but scared

Me too! I am so glad to have had a hysterectomy. I needed to get that great big uterus and fibroids out! I am 12 days post op.

Re: Ready but scared

I spent my 21st birthday in the hospital having ovarian cysts out in 1978.

I had another round of cyst surgery five years ago. Had too quick a recovery (in a way) and wound up ripping a few incisions because I started carrying things too soon. I really learned my lesson on that - while walking as soon as they'll let you is good, don't carry anything if you can possibly avoid it for a few weeks.

The next year, I was in pretty bad pain and excess bleeding for five weeks. A new gynecologist suggested I have a hysterectomy, but, silly me, I decided to wait for menopause. How long could that take? I was already 51, and had been having perimenopausal symptoms (insomnia and the like) for nearly six years.

So, four years later after having two other gynecologists tell me I should have a hysterectomy, here I am, still having regular periods until six weeks ago and I'm getting ready for a TAH on Thursday.

I probably should have done it in 2008, but I think you need to be mentally ready for it if it's elective surgery. I'm so ready now.

Re: Ready but scared

Yee hah! I was thinking the same thing! I can pee, the pressure and pain are better, the organs went back up some and are not protruding! I am glad that we are all on the other side. Here's wishing the same for our sisters!

Re: Ready but scared

Best of luck to you! I'm sure you will do fine, and just think how awesome you will feel when it's all healed up.
I'm having a total hysterectomy (vag/ with DaVinci) on August 21. I'm scared, too. Big time! But the women here have helped ease my mind by giving me lots of good and sound advice.
I hope you find the same comfort here, and please DO keep in touch!
Peace,
Kim

Re: Ready but scared

Day 10 post op and I'm here to tell you stop being scared and start thinking on how you'll celebrate your new life. It was no where near as bad as I had imaged it up to be!! Very little pain if any other than gas and even if there is it it's nothing to the pain we live in before surgery! Can't wait to see you on this side. I'm on my way for follow up appt now. Take care and remember it's all going to be worth it!!
