Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

I am in Ontario my surgery is 11 months away, and I'm on a list to get in sooner.
I think it depends on the hospital and the dr too. My dr does alot of surgeries so he books very far in advance, even just for an appointment it is at least a 6 month wait time.
I think I would rather wait a bit longer and have a dr that I trust than be rushed with just anyone.
Mind you 11 months...in makes me cry to think of the pain I have to go through while I'm waiting to have that very necessary surgery.
Take care

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

I am in Alberta and I had to wait for over 3 months to see a specialist, then after that had to wait a couple more months for my surgery date which i finally had a couple weeks ago. it all depends on the doc how far in advanced he/she is booked for surgeries.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

I see several very long wait times on here ...I am from Northwestern Ontario ...I had an endometrial biopsy Feb. 29 and was waiting to be scheduled for a D&C ...before that happened I was called back to the GYN and found out the biopsy showed complex hyperplasia with atypia and cancer ...my TAH was nine days later. The cancer was stage 1 grade 1 ...we caught it early, everything else was clear. I am thankful for our Canadian Health Care System and for the wonderful care I received, even here in the middle of nowhere!! ...my GYN, GYN/ONC and Surgery were all a 4 1/2 hour drive from where I live.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

If the surgery is urgent, things do move along more quickly. I was deemed priority and waited a month after it was decided that I was going through with this surgery. lLynne, I am sure you were deemed urgent. I am glad that you didn't have to wait any longer as cancer is scary enough without having to wait around worrying.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

Don't you love our Canadian Health Care system? Ugh. I hate hearing about the long wait times & feel for everyone.

However, I am an example (I hope) of the system working quickly when you urgently need it.

I'm just west of Toronto in the GTA.

I was in the ER June 12 where they discovered a grapefruit sized pedunculated (hanging) fibroid which was causing intense pain. I left the ER after only 4.5 hours with an appointment with a gyn on June 14 (he was in surgery on the 13th). My surgery is scheduled for July 18.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

I feel for all us Canadians waiting for surgery. I had a hysterectomy last March. A fallopian tube got out and is in my vagina and has pulled my ovaries into my vagina vault. I live in Kitchener, Ontario and was sent to a specialist in London. It may be a year from when the fallopian tube was first found to the actual removal of it. I am in a lot of pain and keep calling and just get told we don't have a date yet due to cut backs. I have considered paying to go to the States but I don't know if that is a good idea or not? The few gals I found on Hystersisters that this fallopian tube thing happened to were operated on within the week because they did not live in Canada. Here is hoping all our waits are over soon.

My wait time for surgery..... 14 months. 8 more to go! You are lucky to have gotten a shorter wait time.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

My wait time for surgery in Montreal has been 9 months from first contact, or 6 weeks from my consult with the gynecologic oncologist. It took 2 months to get in to be seen by a gynecologist, another 3 & 1/2 months until they scheduled the D&C and hysteroscopy, 1 month for the pathology results to come in and another month until my consult with the oncologist. Once I saw her, it was a quick round of testing and while I was told that it may take up to 3 months to schedule my surgery, it took only half that.

Re: Question to Canadians about wait times for surgery.

Waited six months to see gyn, but only waited a month for hyst.

Pretty good, considering I've wanted a hyst for over 20 years. Regardless of horrendous endo pain and numerous trips to the ER, I was always told "too young".

Now on this board I read about women in their 20's getting hysts no problem. <SIGH>
