Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I to am a cevical cancer survior. It was caught very early and treated sucessfully. I had a TAH but my doctor and I discussed the possibility of keeping an ovary if possible. So, I have one ovary and feel confident that I won't have any problems with this choice.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I actually just had my ovaries removed, two years after my TVH. The pain just never stopped from them - felt like they were pulling and twisting. At the time of my hysterectomy (due to adenoid basal carcinoma of the cervix), I was only 36 and felt good about my choice to keep them. In hindsight, if I'd known the kind of pain I'd be in, I would have removed them straight away, but it's always different and you never know. I'm almost a week post-op from my laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy so I'm still moving very slow, but the pain I'd had from my ovaries is now gone

Did you keep your ovaries?

Yes - at least I kept those ovaries! I am 46 but never faced the pink/blue elephant in the room- so lets say I have a lot of regrets and emotional grief for the children I never had...but, too late for that now! I had menorraga - fancy name for horrid periods causing me to be horribly anemic and tired all the time. They found a mass on my cervix and though begnin presented me with the option of ablation or this. I chose this as too many of my friends had reversals if their ablations. That's all folks!

I had "everything" removed. Not by choice, but because I had so many adhesions and leaving them in would have caused more pain.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

I had everything but 1 ovary removed. I also had horrendous bleeding and pain every month. They found numerous fibroids in the uterus and numerous cycsts in and on the left ovary and fallopian tube. There was also a very large amount of endometriosis. I had a life threatening post surgical infection that I am nearly recovered from (2 years later). I'm still not used to not having that left lower quadrant pain I had almost constantly. Every time I bend over or "push" I still brace myself for the pain that doesn't come. This was the better choice for me over the oblation.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

i am 32 yrs. old and had a hysterectomy when i was 26. i had both overies thaken out for endometriosis. i had had surgery before for the same problem but the endometriosis came back stronger than ever. it was a very hard decision to make but it was killing me and so i made the decision to have the hysterectomy. i havnt had any hormones all these yrs. but they are sounding better to me everyday. i made an appt. with my doc. to get some relief. moodswings and hotflashes are really not my favorite.lol.

Re: If you had a hysterectomy, did you keep your ovaries?

There wasn't really an answer choice for my situation, but the closest one was the last one. I had my right ovary/tube removed in an earlier surgery, hoping to relieve my ovarian cysts for a while. The left one of course took over, so I made the decision this year to go ahead and have the other ovary removed, along with the rest of it.
