What did they do with your cervical ligaments?

I just had my cervix removed last week due to Adenomyosis. Uterus removed last October. I don't know what the name of the ligaments are that attach to the cervix. My surgeon cut the ligaments, crossed them, and then reattached. I've heard that this is now old school and that it may actually cause prolapses. What are your experiences? Any issues or is it all good? Thanks!

Re: What did they do with your cervical ligaments?

I had a total hysterectomy 16 days ago, which included the removal of my cervix. I now have a vaginal cuff that was sewn together to "hold everything in". Many women seem to have the same thing done when their cervix is removed. I am not sure what your procedure was, but my doctor explained to me that a vaginal cuff was necessary when the cervix was removed. I actually watched a video on Youtube showing how a vaginal cuff is formed, and sewn together. Very imformative!

Thanks TillyBean. I just tried watching a YouTube video. I couldn't! Too much. I didn't have robotic surgery. It was lap. It'll be interesting to see what others post. I think the vaginal cuff is pretty standard but the it's the ligaments that hold everything 'up'. I've got a couple of friends that had hysterectomies but their ligaments were left in place.

I did not have the robotic surgery either. And I too did not know if I could watch a video or not, but the one i watched was so informative that I felts drawn to watching it intently. Hope others can enlighten you about the ligaments, as I have no clue.
I too had adenomyosis. The muscle layer of my uterus was covered with it. Did you have it in your cervix?

yes, that's why I had the cervix removed. My Dr wanted to leave the cervix to be conservative but now I wish he would've just taken it. He knew what we were dealing with. I just don't relish the thought of another surgery to tack up my bladder at a later date! This was surgery #7 in the last 10 years. I don't have a belly button. I have a zipper!

7 surgeries in 10 years? You are a pillar! You can be so inspirational to many women.
Are you currently having bladder issues or are you just assuming that after your cervix was removed that your bladder would have issues? Your experience is a great resource for me!

Re: What did they do with your cervical ligaments?

No, no bladder issues. But as we age and the ligaments in our body age, it can happen with surgeries or without. I had a lot of bladder issues after my uterus was taken out last October. It never felt like spasms but it was horrible urgency. Thanks to many hours on this site I ran across one womans post were she commented that after her total hysterectomy, she started using Premarin cream on her vulva for urinary urgency. I still have one ovary and plenty of estrogen but I realized that as my vagina was drying out getting closer to perimenopause, so was the surrounding tissue, vulva. I started using the RepHresh, ph balancing product and then once a week I was using RePlens. The vaginal moisturizing product. 1 -surgery was to remove a polyp so I could get pregnant. I had 2 c-sections. 1-surgery to remove a rutpured ovary and tube due to endo on fertility drugs. 1- surgery to remove gall bladder and now these last 2. ugh.
