I'm Melanie and I'm scheduled to have my partial hysterectomy on September 17th (pre-op on September 13th). My co- worker told me about the site as a great support so I am looking forward to getting to meet and know others on ths site.

Re: I'm a newbie and surgery is on September

Melanie

I'm glad you found us and joined, and hope you will enjoy spending time here both before and after your surgery.

You'll find plenty of helpful tips and information in the Pre-Op Page, and you are welcome to start new threads on the Pre-Op message board to ask questions and also to ask for support. Pre- and post-op Sisters can respond there to share with you.

Just to clarify medical terms, which can be very confusing, a partial hysterectomy removes the uterus, leaving the cervix in place. A total hysterectomy removes the uterus along with the cervix. Removal of the ovaries is a surgery called oophorectomy and while it can be done at the same time as a hysterectomy, it doesn't factor into the definition of either total or partial hysterectomies. I hope that helps!

Best wishes to you for your surgery and recovery!
