What does mesh rejection feel like?

Hi all!! It's been two months since I had my second surgery (ovary removal) and some mesh put in place in my bladder area. I have a lot of abdominal pain. It feels like a pulling sensation on my right side and a dull ache in the bladder area. It's getting worse! Could this have something to do with the mesh? I have an appointment with my doc next week, but I'm going to be freaking out until then. What have some of you sisters experienced?

Re: What does mesh rejection feel like?

I just had mesh removed from the top part of my vagina because my body didn't heal over it completely. It was in the vaginal cuff area. I thought I had a really bad bladder infection. Two rounds of antibiotics didn't clear it up. I had pelvic pain, slight pink blood, burning, a pinching feeling and most of all, I could feel it. Although I thought it was the scar tissue. My doc did a pelvic exam & confirmed it was mesh erosion. I had my hyster with repairs and mesh bladder sling in January. I feel 100% better now. Call your surgeon and have him to an exam to rule out other causes for your pain. Hugs to you!! Keep us posted!

Re: What does mesh rejection feel like?

My personal experience with erosion is that mostly I don't have physical discomfort from it. But I have frequent, random spotting. And my boyfriend can feel it, painfully, when we've been intimate. I have Fibromyalgia and have a lot of pain and general discomfort anyway...so I can't say what pain is what really. But in my experience, if you don't feel right...go to the doc. That's what they're there for. My doc tried to explain away the spotting and told me to give it a few months and maybe see a gastroenterologist. Turns out it actually is erosion. Be persistent! Be pushy! It's your body, your health, and your quality of life! I refuse to accept these things as a new normal. Good luck "sister"!

Red face - What does mesh rejection feel like? Re: What does mesh rejection feel like?

Hi again! Thanks for all the support. And jkds2005. You are so right. We should demand doctors who listen to us. I have had many who didn't. I had many years of hell before I found the doctor I have now. He listens to me and acts on everything I tell him. He's the best doctor I have ever had. Yes, he's a man, but I've had plenty of women gyno's who were awful. I don't care if he's a guy as long as he treats me well.

I went to see him yesterday and told him everything. I have developed a rectocele!! (spelling?) hes sending me to a colon specialist to make sure my plumbing works properly and he's not missing some other problem. Then we'll deal with the rectocele and see if that helps the pain. After I learned how to deal with the rectocele (gross!!) and started "going" again I started to have less abdominal pain. I didn't even realize I was that bad. I thought my abdominal pain was from my surgery and the mesh. I think he's on the right track.

I'll post again as I learn more!! Again thanks for all your hugs! I send hugs back. ;0)
