Just got a call back for more pictures.

I'm 50 and just had my first mammogram. The reason being, I just got insurance for the first time in years...

Anyway, my doctor who's performing my TAH, has of course ordered all the normal tests. I had my mammogram Friday and they called me back today wanting to see more. I'm dealing with so much already, this has kind of freaked me out a bit.

Has anyone else had this happen?

I was told it happens frequently but usually turns out to be nothing, or at least benign. Esp at your first one they want a good "baseline" to compare to later. I had to have extra views and it turned out to just be a "wrinkle" in the tissue that got squished. Try not to worry, hard as that is. I hope it turns out to be all clear.

I've been called back several times over the years. One time was when I had a new gyn. Really freaked me out when he wanted an ultrasound done stat! All turned out okay. Hopefully yours will be the same.

Thanks for the replies. I know call backs are relatively common, but as I've never had one before, I keep thinking something could be going on there undetected. My mother had breast cancer, though she was much older. I don't know much about it though because I haven't seen her since I was eleven...
Anyway, a radiologist is supposed to tell me my results tomorrow, which means I won't have to wait long, though in a way, it makes me even more nervous about the appointment.

Time for a glass of wine, I guess...

Right before my surgery I was called by my dr. to retake my mammogram. I was scared as heck. I didn't tell anybody that I had to do a retake and I also didn't schedule an appt. for another test. It wasn't until a week later when the imaging office called me that I scheduled the appt. Which scared me even more. It was still almost another week before I made the appt. It wasn't until then that I talked to my sister in law and she eased my mind a little. She said that it happens a lot and that sometimes it's all in the way that the technician did the first test and a lot of women have very dense breast tissue and that can mess up the test a little too.
I say all of this to say I worried my self to death and I worried alone for no reason. Thankfully the second test was fine. Although the test turned out negative I should have taken someone with me because I was a nervous wreck even after the radiologist gave me the test results I was still a shakey mess.
Prayerfully everything will turn out fine with you test!!!

I didn't really have a choice in the matter, as they immediately scheduled me for tomorrow morning, just another thing to incite my fear. I too, haven't really talked to anyone, save for on this board. I told my husband they called me back this morning, and he said, "Good. They want to be thorough." That's his idea of reassuring me... Telling me it's good they called me back. I mentioned it to my 22 year old daughter, but to her, I played down my fears, because I really don't want her to worry. We lost her dad to cancer a week before her third birthday... I don't know how she could handle bad news about me.
It was enough dealing with my nerves and denial over a huge mass growing in my stomach for the past five years, which I hoped was a fibroid, but didn't know. Thank God, after finally getting insurance (pre-existing insurance through the new health care reform), I found out it was indeed a fibroid--a 20 cm fibroid, but treatable with a hysterectomy. I really don't need any other bad news on top of it. I'm just looking forward to getting this huge thing out of me, and trying to live normally again.

I still have to deal with pap smear results too--my first in 16 years... but my doctor's on vacation... I'm just not good at this stuff.

Okay, all done. Turns out I have small calcifications in my right breast. They appear benign, but they want to have another look in 6 months. Phew! Another thing off my mind for now.

Now I can get on with my surgery.

Glad it was good news! I have to get a biopsy and I could tell there was something wrong because the tech went an got the radiologist and they wanted to biopsy right there and then! I go for another mammo and u/s Aug 29 an then the biopsy Aug 31 (I never let them do it the first time as I was so caught off guard). I really hope my news is good too! I am only 37
