Re: Anything to help boost libido?

Hey, i want some answers, too! I am 48, had my surgery 3.5.05 and let me tell you, i could happily go months without anything...and oh let me tell you, my husband is oh so not thrilled. I don't want it at all.
So if anyone has any ideas, i am open. I am on EEMT HS MTEST HS, nada, nothing. I even did a study, they were doing this study for a cream to see if it worked for women...the entire study turned out to be a bust....

Re: Anything to help boost libido?

Hey Sisters,

I had my hysterectomy this past February and since then have had no libido. My husband is very patient but sex is obviously important to him. I just picked up a copy of Natural Health magazine, Jul/Aug edition and in it is and article entitled "Ready for the Change". It is about natural menopause but there are some suggestions that sound helpful. One is a supplement for low sex drive and suggests taking 500-1,000 mgs of Peruvian Maca Root. The brand name is Navitas Naturals Raw Maca Powder. The other is to help vaginal dryness is Thai Kudzu and the brand is Solgar PhytoGen Complex. It's available on amazon. Also, The Wisdom of Menopause is a great source of information.

Re: Anything to help boost libido?

Well, I thought I was alone. I am experiencing the same low libido after my surgery almost a year ago. I was anticipating that it would have been the same as it was prior to surgery or even better.

Some of my friends who had done hysterectomy were telling me that sex for them is even better but what I have realized is that those ladies have even 1 ovary remaining. Ladies who have done a total is going thru the same as us. I still have my cervix and maybe that's what is helping me to have a strong orgasm when I do have the feeling for sex - say every 2-3 weeks I'm in the mood.

Currently, I am on Primarin (the cream) which I insert a dose of 0.05 twice per week (when I remember lol) This helps with the dryness but doesn't do anything for my libido. I also still have the hot flashes.

My husband is also hoping that I can get back to normal but he is also very understanding. I just accept that my sex life will never be the same so I'm not going to fuss about it anymore. One thing I know, I won't be dosing myself with anymore HRT as I'm afraid of the side effects.

Re: Anything to help boost libido?

Thanks for this helpful information. I had an AH in 2005 and was left with one ovary. Then in July 2012 I had my last ovary removed. My hubby is throwing himself into a tizzy and depression over my lack of wanting anything and the dryness. I'll search out anything to get back even a little of what we had before. I'm getting tired of the pouting all the time too.

Re: Anything to help boost libido?

The vibrator is all good WHEN you're doing it, but it's getting to the point of wanting to do it is the problem. I like MANY have no libido. Not sure what to try. I can't take any HRT's, so not sure what my options are.

Re: Anything to help boost libido?

My libido disappeared as well after my hysterectomy. Lots of experimenting and I FINALLY have my sex drive back. First I was put on the Estratest, then we added premarin, then a testosterone cream. It was a lot to remember. The premarin helped with the dryness. The testosterone cream helped me have sensation, but where was the DRIVE? MISSING for YEARS! It was disappointing and frustrating. Once I got going, it felt good, but it was very easy to let life get in the way and not even get to the sex. Since not a whole lot of sex was happening, I backed down on the premarin and the testosterone cream.

Some things happened that encouraged me to try to get this thing back on track. I decided to be diligent about taking all my medication regularly. I had switched from premarin to vagifem by this time and was using it only often enough so that toilet paper didn't hurt, but not often enough to be REALLY ready for sex at any time. The testosterone cream was kinda the same.....used it only when I anticipated sex. So, I changed things and decided I was going to use everything regularly and I was just going to initiate sex and have it whether I was "in the mood" or not and maybe that would ignite things (that's what my doctor said would happen).

OH BOY!!!!! I was CRAZY *****!!!! I could masturbate 5 or 6 times a day and then have sex and finally be somewhat satisfied. And I was having VERY strange ideas and thoughts about sex (strange for me anyway). It was actually getting in the way of my life. I was thinking ONLY of sex! If this is what teenage boys go through, no wonder they are nuts!

As it turned out.....I was MISUSING the testosterone cream! Using it WAY more often than I should. So, I finally backed down and began using it as prescribed (I had mis-remembered what the doctor had originally told me). Things are more normal now. I could go for a few weeks without it if necessary, but I keep my mind exercised in the sex department as well. The more you use it all, the more you want to use it all.

We also employ some tantric sex practices and are more focused on the emotional bonding experience during sex. For me, as a woman, that helps ignite the physical desire. We can have a wonderful sexual experience that does not involve either of us having orgasms. We can also have some fabulous orgasms, but there is no pressure to have them.

Don't give up hope! Keep trying. I wish you good luck. For me, the difference in the DESIRE is the testosterone cream, combined with a concentrated effort not to let sex be pushed aside, which can happen easily with a busy life.
