Piercings

I still have two days till my preop appt. I don't have any " southern" piercings but was wondering if anyone had to remove their other piercings or switch to non-metallic

Re: Piercings

i asked my doctor the same question and she told me i would have to remove my piercings (I don't have any below the equator either) she says it is because of the cauterizer. I guess they could" spark" I have already bought the retainers so I the holes don't close up. I have several 14 and 16 gauge piercings and really don't want them to have to be redone. Especially the industrial bar!!!!!! I have some really old holes (think piercing gun) that should be okay for a day. Hope this helps!

Re: Piercings

I am 5 weeks post op and this was one of my biggest concerns. I have my nose, tragus, three on each ear and the top of my ear (what is that called?) anyways I got retainers just in case but when I went to pre op they said I had to put them in because they can heat up and burn you from some of the machines.
The night before my surgery I couldn't get my tragus or the one on the top of my ear out. When I went in they said they would just put medical tape over them. It was easier to get the retainers if you can but they were accommodating in the OR.
Best of luck!

Re: Piercings

Hello, just had my surgery on the 31st of july, They bascially told me anything metal had to go. They let me keep my plugs in because they were made of silcone. Remember this is for your benefit because if they had to start your heart back up the metal from the jewelry can scar you and lead to more serious injuries. I would suggest you get retainers or take them out right when you go back to get prepped and remind yourself and the person your with to help you put them back in after surgery. The whole surgery time should still leave you with a hole. You might have to work them back in but its better than getting seriously burned. Good luck to all of you Piercing Princesses.
