Depression after surgery

I had my hysterectomy on June 8th. My recovery was VERY slow and I still have times where if I do to much I hurt and I tired all the time. They kept both my ovaries so my doc says I shouldn't be having emotional problems and left the room. I am depressed about not having another child which I didn't want anymore children before the surgery. I cry all the time over little things and I just don't feel like myself anymore. Is it normal to still have all of this going one since my surgery was so long ago. I sure don't feel normal

Re: Depression after surgery

I kept both ovaries and had similar emotional issues for about 4 weeks post op. At 4 weeks the crying and mood swings seemed to ease up a little more as time went by. I hope your feeling better soon!

Re: Depression after surgery

I know exactly how you feel. I was positive before my hysterectomy that my family was complete once my baby was born, but I didn't want to tie my tubes because I wanted to know that if I changed my mind, I could. The fact that I can't have any more children even if I wanted to makes me sad. I try to focus on the fact that I have three beautiful children and I'm so grateful that I'm alive so that I can raise them. That's the only thing that keeps me from going into depression. That doesn't keep me from crying if I think about it. I'm tearing up as I type this. My doctor also told me that my hormones should be back to normal by now. I don't know if I believe that because I still feel like a crybaby at times. Oh, and I also hurt if I do too much. I think that's pretty normal.

Please message me if you want to talk about it. I would be glad to help you through this.

Re: Depression after surgery

DMason

My recommendation to you is to get another opinion from a different Dr. It may be that your ovaries aren't functioning as they should, they can go into shock and need some support.

In addition if you believe a portion of it is depression seek out a therapist or someone to help you work through these issues. Depression is a serious thing and can be managed.

Here's hoping you find a Dr. who will work with you to resolve the issues.
