Cyst on ovary

It has been ages since I have logged in and I had almost forgotten the wonderful support that is here. I am 6yrs post hyst and recently discovered that my right ovary has a 7.5 cm cyst with a 2cm daughter cyst and an additonal posturn cyst. I have an appt on Tues but after researching here and elsewhere I think its almost a given that I will be losing my right ovary. I am glad to see that my thoughts of keeping my left aren't far fetched! This will be a new gyno for me so I am hoping his thoughts will mesh with mine.

For those with larger cysts, how was your procedure done and what is/was your recovery like?

Total side note: I think I noticed more right than left ovaries with cysts...I wonder if there is a statistic somewhere on that and what theories there may be. Yes, I get random curiousities like that :-)

Re: Cyst on ovary

I didn't have a cyst but I had a davinci laparoscopic BSO. If you end up having a lap procedure, which I hope you can, mine was a pretty easy recovery. Let me know when you find out and I can tell you more if it might help. Sorry you are needing more surgery.

Re: Cyst on ovary

Discovered the right ovary will have to go, but the Dr told ME that I was keeping the left...so glad I didn't have to fight over that! Since I am overweight he is going to try doing a lap, but he might have to open me up...the irony being that if he opens me up, he can get a better look at the left as there might be a cyst developing there also :/ My main worry is actually my job but I've already decided that if they don't like the date my surgeon schedules me for, they can take a flying leap!

Re: Cyst on ovary

I found out this weekend from a visit to the ER that I have a cyst on my left ovary. My doctor is ready to do surgery, possibly even this week. I want them to take my ovaries when they go in this time. I know that cysts have a tendency of coming back in my family. I don't want to have to have surgery again.

The cyst was removed regular laproscopic the rest was vaginal. My cyst was 9 CM, which the drained to about 6 so they could compress it to remove it.

Re: Cyst on ovary

Thank you, everyone. Luckily, they were able to perform a lap so here I am at home in bed. I was not prepared for the nausea from anesthesia (I've never had it happen before but I've never managed to have my 'same day' surgery actually end the same day.) Nor am I happy about the pain in my throat. I think I'll be using my pain meds for that more than the incision sites!

Sorry if this is gross for anyone but quite by accident I wound up asking for pics of my ovaries while they were in and I got them! Granted my right one is now gone but the left does have a cyst so tiny they left it alone and I was able to compare the two. Also have a great placement pic for monitoring. Weird to sound so excited about...guess I was always a closet anatomy freak.

Re: Cyst on ovary

Glad it worked out for you! I had a 29cm cyst and that is was led to them needing to do a tah. They drained mine too first. An unexpected bonus was the huge weight loss

Re: Cyst on ovary

Krystahl, analgesic throat spray is your friend. I had a sore throat from the breathing tube for a few days. It does go away.

Re: Cyst on ovary

I told my surgeon I wanted a picture of the right ovary proving that he took it out (last March he decided to leave it and I was NOT happy). I now have a step by step guide on him comparing the two ovaries, pinching the thingie connecting the right ovary to my body, a picture of the ovary in the bag on its way to pathology, and a picture of the little staple he used to close things off. He knew I wanted PROOF, lol. It really helped mentally when I was in pain post-surgery- left those picture on the living room table for a week (we did not have any visitors, lol).

Glad you were able to get some relief. My left ovary seems to get much smaller cysts and I am allowing it to stay as long as it does not cause pain... otherwise I will have to find someone to issue an eviction notice!
