Swollen legs

Hi All

I am six months post-op and my legs (and frequently tummy) are very swollen. I can no longer wear my skinny jeans and feel fat, ugly and frumpy.

I saw my doctor yesterday and he told me that it is a common post hysterectomy problem due to the lymph system being upset. Apparently, due to gravity, fluid builds up in the legs and tummy and cannot disperse due to the lymph system not working.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do?

I was never warned that this might happen.

I am a recovering anorexic and therefore this a real issue for me.

Thank

Re: Swollen legs

I was wondering about that myself! It has been 6 weeks for me and I feel like I am really retaining water. I am watching what I eat and not adding salt to anything but I feel swollen. I weigh myself everyday and I see a 1 to 3 pound fluctuation everyday. Nothing is helping. Hopefully someone has an idea what might help.

Re: Swollen legs

Hi...I had my surgery for endometrial cancer in feb. also...my aortic and pelvic lymph nodes were removed along with everything else. I was warned that lymphadema was a possible side effect of this surgery. I see a physical therapist who specializes in lymphadema . They have taught me manual lymph drainage techniques. My abdomen and pelvic area swell. My legs are not effected as of yet...hopefully they won't. They teach you what to look for and how to move the lymph fluid. It might be beneficial for you to check into it. Before it gets too bad. Good luck.

Re: Swollen legs

I had this issue sometime before my surgery for endo cancer. I have a desk job and I found the more I sat the worse the swelling would be that night. I finally asked my dr for fluid pills. I don't take them everyday (none sense surgery) I take them when the swelling gets bad they help tremendously. Dr's aren't crazy about prescribing these. Huggsss

Re: Swollen legs

Hi, I'm so sorry for your issues! Does exercise help? I had problems with my ankles swelling and a nice vigorous workout on the elliptical alleviated the swelling.

I sure hope you find a good solution.
