Had Excision Surgery - Now Next Steps?

Hi! I had excision surgery done two weeks ago. My prior two laps found endo on my uterus and bladder flap. In this surgery, I had endo excised from my uterus, bladder, bowels, intestines, and uterosacral ligaments. I also had to have my right ovary and Fallopian tube removed because they were so damaged. Interestingly, I also had a ton of staples removed from my uterus, bladder, and my ovary (well, that were taken out with my ovary) from my initial lap in 09 when I got dx'd with endo and had my appendix removed. Seems the staples fell out of my appendix stump, migrated and embedded in my reproductive organs.

The surgeon also diagnosed me with adenomyosis. He recommended Mirena as the treatment. I will ask him about it in my post op follow up, but I have to admit I'm a little scared. I've either heard people love it, or absolute horror stories about Mirena. If that's his recommendation, I will do it, but I'm scared. Silly, right?

I am so glad I sought out the specialist and had the excision. Obviously it was necessary. Only 2 weeks post op I'm still really sore and limited, and exhausted! Since it ended up being a bigger surgery than any of us thought, it's going to be a longer recovery. That's ok. I'm lucky enough that my job is flexible enough to allow me to dial it in a bit and take the time to allow myself to recover. I can't bend over yet, or lift anything, or drive, but I'll get there! I'm really hopeful about the outcome, and keeping my fingers crossed!

I am glad you saw a specialist and hope that the end result is that endometriosis is a thing of the past for you!

I do not regret seeing a specialist and have been endometriosis pain and symptom free since then, four and a half years now.

Adenomyosis can be a continue problem, sadly, but hopefully one of the options your doctor suggests will offer you successful results. When you are feeling better, you and your surgeon can still down and talk more about the Mirena and any other options you could consider.

For now, let your body heal. It can take some time, so don't panic if you don't feel wonderful for a few more weeks. Rest, drink plenty of fluids, and follow all of your doctor's orders for you!

in there and know we will all be in your corner rooting for you to be one of the success stories!

Had Excision Surgery - Now Next Steps?

I had a 9 cm endometrionoma on my right ovary 2 years ago. I had ovary fallopian tube and endometrionoma removed along with a endometrial ablation for excessive bleeding. The doctors saw inactive disease on left ovary but did not remove it. I did well for three months after surgery and then started bleeding continuously but lighter. Six months after surgery, I had gyn put in Mirena. I do have much less bleeding, but since January, I bleed a little more at each cycle.

I have been working with a endometriosis specialist who is going to do excision surgery and remove all lesions that he can find. I have decided to have uterus and cervix removed since probability of adenomyosis is high. I am done having children. Surgery is scheduled for Oct.

I do not find having the Mirena a problem. Most complaints I have seen on websites were symptoms that I already had before it was inserted. Probably due to the endometriosis. The only thing new for me was milk of calcium on mammogram. It was a comment on report but sounded like benign finding. I don't know if it was from Mirena or from just getting older. If it is gone in next next year's mammogram then I will know it was Mirena.

Best wishes.
Melissa
