Wow! Home in 4 hours!
Hi all!
Just got home from my LSH with ovary and tube removal. I am planning on keeping a recovery log here in hopes my story will help someone.
My history. I am 41 and in excellent health. I had 2 reasons for the surgery I have Adenomyosis and have been plagued with 14 day periods, lots of bleeding, clotting and pain. I also chose to have my ovaries removed because my mom passed of ovarian cancer at the age of 61 just last year so it seemed like a no brainier to me.
I arrived at the hospital at 530 for a 730 surgery. I know I am still on meds and a little groggy but so far having to wake up at 4am was the hardest part! When i arrived the nurses got me dressed, took my vitals and hooked up my iv. At about 645 I was sent back to the surgical waiting area. More vitals taken more questions from the nurses and then a meeting with the anesthesiologist. He put an anti nausea patch on me and wheeled into the operating theater where I got to see my doc and was then put under and out in seconds. The surgey only took an hour follwed by an hour to wake up from anesthia. I woke up in recovery feeling pretty darn good. After my blood pressure came up to normal levels I went back to my recovery room where my hubby was waiting.
There, I had my first cup of coffee of the day (pure heaven!) then a bottle of Gatorade. One final check of the vitals a pee and then I got up, dressed myself and waited for my chariot to get me outta there! Time from check in to release: 5 hours.
Hubby and I stopped to pick up my meds (Percocet and OTC ibuprofen) and headed home. My pain level is about a 2. Less than my terrible period pain. At home I got out of the car, headed inside and upstairs to my room with no pain or assistance.
So, at 11:30 I was in bed, sipping a Gatorade and am ready for a light lunch. I have virtually no pain and haven't taken any pain meds yet. I will take my ibuprofen with lunch and go from there. I am also going to take a stool softener.
So... For now the surgery was a piece of cake. Currently I have no swelling and the incisions are sooooo small. Honestly the worry up to the procedure has been the hardest part so far. I'm planning on updating again tomorrow but I just wanted to send some words of encouragement to others about to head in.
I know this was a long post so thanks for reading and best wishes to anyone with up coming surgery!
