Yeast Infection????

Hi ladies,

I have a question that i hope you can help me with. 3 wks ago i had a bladder infection that wasn't one, meaning the test said that i didn't have one but i did have blood in my urine. Dr put me on antibotics and the pills that make your urine turn orange, that seemed to help because the pain was gone and the follow up test said that the blood was gone. Now for the question....the other day i noticed that i had what i call crud undies, there was a lot of discharge and itching and it is still there only worse. I seem to be having some discomfort in the area too, today i had what felt like shooting pains in the vaginal canal, nothing real severe but enough to make me sit up and take notice. Since my surgery 10 months ago i seem to be more moist there too. I can't ever remember having a yeast infection before and is this what it could be? I really hate going to the dr, is there an OTC drug that i could take that would help? When i go to the bathroom and wipe there is a discomfort and i just don't feel dry in the area is this a normal feeling with a yeast infection? Thanks for your help in this matter. One or two more questions....once you get one does this mean you will get more? What about my dh, can he get them from me?

Love & Hugs,
Eileen

Yeast Infection????

{{{{{{{{Eileen}}}}}} sounds like a yeast infection to me especially since you were on antibiotics(many cause yeast infections). I would call your doctor......he may prescribe Diflucan which is a one time pill that usually cures the infection within a day or two. There are over the counter meds as well but I would not advise them as sometimes they only help temporarily. It is better to have it checked out to be sure..........thye can be nasty.

Yeast Infection????

(((Sheri))), (((Emily)))

Thank you so much for responding. Sheri i checked out those web sites , wow, how do you know where to go for all these things, you are truely amazing!!! I did call my dr this am and talked to his nurse, she said that she would talk to the dr when he got back in the office . She said that they would call in a script for Diflucan and that i wouldn't need to come in since i told her my symptoms and she knew that i had been on another antibotic in the last 2 weeks. I can't pick it up till after 5 today, so i guess i will live with the irritation all day. One thing i did forget to ask is if we should sustain from having sex and for how long. Any ideas about this? I'm really hoping that this is the end of meds for me and not the start of something that i don't want to have. I've been heathy most of my adult life (knock on wood) and have felt so much better since my hyst that i don't want to jinx myself and have to run to the dr every other week for one infection after another. The thing that i don't understand is why this is happening now. I haven't changed anything in my life, not diet, exercise, stress, laundry soaps or anything. Once again Thank You from the bottom of my heart. You ladies are just wonderful!!! I'm so glad i can come here and ask things that i usually wouldn't ask anyone sometimes not even my dr. One more thing...how long before this med takes effect? I hope its immediate, the irritation and swelling is driving me nuts!!

Love & Hugs,
Eileen

Yeast Infection????

((((((Eileen))))))

I'm sorry that you are dealing with the "yeastie beasties"
I have been on Diflucan several times & it usually starts working in a day or two. I get yeast infections often, because I am on antibiotics often for sinus infections.
I wouldnt overly-worry about this - you probly just got the yeast infection because you were on the antibiotics, like Emily said.
I hope you are feeling better soon
Oh - I was never told that I had to abstain from sex for a certain amount of time. You might want to call your Dr. & ask him.
Ttcare !

Yeast Infection????

Eileen,

I recently had a yeast infection due to the Cipro I was on after bladder sling surgery. They are nasty!

Diflucan works great (for me at least) and is far better than the traditional 7 day treatment creams.

You can also use an external cream (such as vagisil, etc) to help with the itching and burning (ask doc first). Diflucan usually takes a couple of days to start working. I ended up taking Diflucan 3 days after starting the Cipro (was on it for a week) and then again after I was done taking antibiotics.

Normally, I get a yeast infection EVERYTIME I am on antibiotics. My doc knows me well and automatically gives me a script to treat any yeast infection(s) when antibiotics are needed.

And as other sisters have said, you can pass this to DH. Use a condom during treatment :-) Trust me, DH does not want to end up with the itchies. I made the mistake of passing a yeast infection to my DH back about 11 years ago and he was miserable; and I felt aweful for passing it to him. Back then my doc didn't tell me to use protection.

Best wishes.

Yeast Infection????

Once you've got this yeast infection taken care of with the Diflucan, there are some things you can do to reduce the chances of getting another one.

You can take some type of probiotic daily. Some examples of these are AZO Yeast, Probiotica or acidophilus capsules from the health food/vitamin store. It also helps to eat lots of yogurt (the kind that says "with live active cultures" on the label). And reducing your sugar intake will also help, since the yeasts thrive on sugar.

I hope you will get some relief very quickly with the diflucan.

Yeast Infection????

Eileen,

I sure hope you start feeling better soon!!!! I have also been dealing with the Yeastie beasties. Have had 9 courses of antibiotics for abdominal abcesses and always get a yeast infection from them.

It appears my Doc covers all the bases since he prescribed Diflucan X 14 days (which Ins did not pay for the $140), Monistat cream for the 1st 72 hours (till Diflucan could start to work) and Probiotics (replaces normal flora killed by antibiotics) everyday until I am back to normal.

Hope you feel better soon!!! Let me know if your insurance pays for the Diflucan - I was shocked that mine didn't.
