Finished Chemo

I had my #6 Taxol and Carbo Monday. It ended with a real bang. With about 20 minutes left of the Carbo, I began having an allergic reaction. My face got beet red, my tongue & lips got numb, and the palms of my hands tingled. The infusion was shut down. My onc said this is rare for Carbo, usually Taxol causes these reactions. He decided I can't finish the Carbo.

Hopefully, I won't need more Chemo in the future. If I do, I will have to shop for a different brand.

Now I start a new chapter in my cancer life. I have to wait for 2 weeks for my Neutraphils to drop and then return to normal (as they always do after chemo). Then I can return to work. Yea.

I think going back to my routine pre cancer will help me the most. But, as said many times before here, I don't think I'll ever be the same.

Thanks all for your support.

Congraulations at being done with chemo . Maybe the reaction wasyour bdes waying saying. We don't need this anymore! I hope you make a smooth transition back to work. I agree that things will never be the same as pre cancer for us. I think they will be better, becaue we are stronger and have learned what it truly imporant and to cherish the moments!

CONGRATULATIONS! Chemo's History!

Long term, I've heard of more problems with carboplatin than Taxol. Anyway-- and offering at your being a chemo grad! And may every last cell have passed away during chemo and never, never, never return! Ellen

Congrats on finishing your treatments. What a way to finish them up eh? I'm so glad they stopped it so quickly after you started reacting. I hope that the side effects will pass quickly so you can get back to everyday. You ARE right though, its not the same after BUT can end up being much better after.

I hope you do some celebrating to mark the event.

Way to go, Ruth! So glad you are finished! Hopefully, your pre-cancer lifestyle will return quickly and this will all seem like just a bad dream.

I'm so proud of you, Ruth! You hung in there beautifully. So, now, a toast .

Finished Chemo

Way to go {{{Ruth}}},
Hope you have some time to party.

I believe you had that reaction to the drug because it couldn't find any cancer cells left to attack. Enough is Enough!!

I'm just so proud of you and your strength and perserverance.

Congratulations Ruth..

I certainly hope that you will be really really celebrating as soon as you feel better after this last chemo.

Isn't it a GREAT feeling???

As for the reaction, sorry it happened, but your doc is right.. It does usually happen with the taxol and not the carboplatin.. In fact, I had that same reaction when I had my first session and it was from the taxol.

Anyway, it never happened again and they said that it would not.

Hope you have big plans and we would love to hear all about them!!
