Joining the Ladies in Waiting

Hi everyone,
I was so pleased when I found this site yesterday. After months of using hormones to try and control my heavy and painful periods my doctor asked me yesterday if I was ready to get it over with or wanted to continue trying to use meds. I'm giving up and taking the hysterectomy, the meds just aren't working for me and my youngest child will turn 11 this saturday I had a tubal when she was born so children aren't an issue for me. But I feel for those that are dealing with this as well as impending surgery.
I will have a (lets see if I can get this right) TAH/???
Ooops I foget but he's taking it all. I've already had 3 c-sections so I'm afraid if they leave the ovaries I could end up having to have a 5th surgery to remove them later.
Oh well, I've talked enough.
I'm not terribly nervous yet but I'm sure I'll get there later.
I'll be going on Jan 3rd.

A new lady in waiting

Kris - Hello and welcome. If dr. is taking everything with abdominal incision...that'd be tah/bso. I had that done 3/22. Glad you found us...this is a great place.

I dont have my first consultation with a specialist until Dec 11 and Im not sure what is going to happen Im in uncharted territory but i know that is inevitable and I like you have children that I am very content with. Take care and I hope all goes well

Welcome Kris, this is a great place to find support.Everyone here is real friendly and helpful. Im due in on Dec,7. Im having a tah plus right ovarie and tub. Left ovarie and tub already gone. I am also scared. Called Doc. office today to request something for nerves when I get to the hospital before they do any thing. I think would make things much easier for all.

thanks for the welcome ya'll
I'm not really scared yet. Having had the c-sections I think I know what to expect as far as procedures at the hospital and pain afterwards. What I don't know is how the loss of hormones will effect me. My doc said he would be putting me on hormone therapy right after surgery.
I read one post about an insurance company not approving the surgery. Why would they do that? I think (hope) that my insurance company leaves that decision to me and my doctor as they should. Is this a big problem for many women? or an isolated case?

Welcome to kris541

Hi Kris. I had a TAH/BSO five weeks ago and I am so glad I did. I went through meds and D&C's and lots of pain and bleeding before I cried UNCLE and took the hyster route. My gyn said and our insurance concurred that we had done everything we could with the meds, hormones and tests, and then my gyn called and explained the constant pain and bleeding. They approved it pronto and even asked if I wanted a home nurse for post op! Keep checking into the posts to answer your questions in the days to come. It helps to get you ready and eases the decision. I am on hormones from the start, and frankly it is better than what was happening before. At six weeks, next week I will be going in for my hormone check. I am glad not to worry about another surgery. I have a 12 year old for my youngest, and she is so happy to see me not in pain, it makes it easier for her someday "upcoming event!" I also had c-sections, and this is a much different surgery so be prepared! A c-section is usually 45 minutes to and hour, and the baby is supposed to come out! I was under 5 hours due to the amount of endo they had to remove, putting things back in place, and removal of scar tissue from my other surgeries before they closed. Recovery is to be taken slower and it is important to take it easy.

Ldies in Waiting

Newby here... and soooooooooo glad I found hystersisters! Just from reading posts to this forum this evening I'm feeling less nervous. I'm scheduled for a TAH/BSO on December 14th. Great 40th Birthday present, aye? Both of my daughters will be here to help which will be a plus as my wonderful hubby will be a nervous wreck! Like I need something else to worry about.

I guess I'm mainly worried about the mood issues post op. I've relayed that concern to the doc whom I have great faith in. I think I've lucked out and found me a good one.

Thanks for all that all of you contribute to this list. I've found many anti-hyst women out there who show little patience for those of us at the point of just wanting to get it all over with.

Lovingly, Pat
