concerns about cancer being found
Hi Ladies!
I'm having surgery on the 3rd, everythings going - cervix, uterus, ovaries. I'm worried about what may be found when they get in there. I've spent the last 9 months living on pain meds - percocet, vicoden, darvaset. After having 2 CTs, 2 transvaginal USs, IVP, colonoscopy, laparoscopy all the blood and urine work, nothing was found, but severe left side cervix and ovary pain has worsened. Also have nausea, bloating, numbness/pain in left leg, numb toes, fatigue. Finally dr has decided to do a hysterectomy. I don't have an answer to whats causing all my symptoms. I'm concerned because of family history. My mom had both breast and ovarian cancer, my sister had colon polyps and now a calcified breast mass that being "watched".
I'm 38 and always been very healthy up until 9 months ago. My dr is going in through my bikini C-section scar so he can get a good look around. Its all very frustrating not knowing whats causing the pain and symptoms. Has anyone else had similar symptoms that were resolved with surgery and not had any nasty surprises waiting in there?
Thanks, Teri

concerns about cancer being found
I think that's always the fear with this surgery and any time you hear the word biopsy. And some of it is just the fear of the surgery and the unknown itself finding a name for itself. I haven't had your experience, but I was told to have the hyster and everything out because I had a mystery mass on my ovary. After the surgery he said it was benign, meaning it wasn't ovarian cancer. Then at my two weeks, nope it was a rare other kind of cancer (thecoma-fibroma). So that was a bit of a nasty surprise. But, it was all over. Surgery had gotten it. So, even if it ends up being a nasty surprise, it doesn't have to be a nasty experience.
In some ways, I really appreciate ways that this surgery and the experience of confronting my fears have changed me. So, good news or bad, it might not be a bad experience. Everyone I know with bad news, had it show up in the tests. So, I'm thinking you'll be ok. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Keep us posted, {{cap'n}}. We'll be praying for you.
