Self-Hypnosis?

Has anyone tried a self-hypnosis CD for pre-surgery and post-surgery healing?

Check if you like it

Nope, I´m pre-op but I´d go for it. I prefer plain applied relaxation but any kind of suggestive relaxation should work. Injection phobia is an exception where tension is needed. There are cd:s with different contents - ones with normal light hypnotic suggestions and others with mental journeys in imaginative surroundings. Do you have previous experience of hypnosis or do you know someone who used it pre-, during or after?

Self-Hypnosis?

I am using a tape, Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster. It is guided imagery and body relaxation, about 20 minutes long. I am finding much relief from using it...plan on using it in the hospital before and after surgery. Check in with me later in the week and I'll let you know how it works. Sue

Yesterday, I received the hypnosis CDs advertised on Hystersisters. Have not tried yet, but will let you know how it's working. CD is titled "Sefl-Hypnosis Support for Surgery" by Jennifer Polle.
Her website is www.mindbodyrx.net.
Take care! Stay in touch!

Self-Hypnosis?

I have one that a friend gave me. Her son used it for his recent surgery and loved it. He listened to it at home prior to going in, but not in the hospital itself. The one I have has guided imagery, as well as positive affirmations.

Self-Hypnosis?

I made my own tape using progressive relaxation, guided imagery and positive suggestions. I was very scared. I do believe it helped me to think more positive and relax. I added a post-hypnotic pose at the end that would send me into a relaxed state if I did it. At first I didn't realize the pose was working, but once I did I started doing it consciously. Hey, I figured if the sugar pill works, use it. I found after surgery, I haven't needed it.

Self-Hypnosis?

THat's really neat! I thought about doing my own tape, but I don't think I could stand listening to my own voice over and over!

Why not give it a try

As a matter of fact, if you know how, or are instructed to use your voice in a calming way (low and slow enough), it is even more effective to hear yourself giving the affirmations than an unknown voice. I know this from my own practice as the clients used to protest at first but come back very pleased with themselves.
