Upcoming surgery - LAVH recovery time?
Hi, new here and am wondering what to expect regarding post-op recovery times. Best guess is a laprascopically assisted vaginal. Any hints or experiences would be greatly appreciated

Way to Go
I had LAVH on 1/23/07 and it was the way to go. Friends who had the regular incision really suffered in comparison. I left the hospital the day after surgery and took it very easy for about a week. The second week I made sure I got a nap in the afternoon. Now I am fine even though I am not so happy about the lab report which the oncologist had to tell me about yesterday at a checkup. That sneaky cancer at stage 1B hid from the doctors through the endometrial biopsy and the OR biopsy, however, now that everything is out including the cervix, nothing needs to be done. I will see my OB/GYN in 3 more weeks and the oncologist who assisted with the surgery in 3 months. Good luck and do not worry. Trust your doctors.

Upcoming surgery - LAVH recovery time?
Talk to your doctor about how long your recovery time will be. My doctor has his patients down for 6 weeks, even for the LAVH, which I had, meaning no driving, no baths, no exercise other than walking, no working, .
While I did not have pain beyond the second day, there is still a lot of healing going on inside of you even if you don't hurt and your body needs time to heal. There is only one chance to heal right the first time!
Best wishes to you!

Upcoming surgery - LAVH recovery time?
I am having a LAVH on February 22nd. My dr said that I am not to drive for 6 weeks! This seems to be a long time to be home bound. I am off work until April 9th. I guess I will be reading tons of books and watching movies. He also stressed that no housework or lifing for the 6 weeks. I also have to do a bowel cleanse the day before! Sounds nasty.

Upcoming surgery - LAVH recovery time?
Hi there - I just had a Vaginal Asssisted Laproscopic Hyst. on Feb 1 for a prolapsed uterus (I'm 31yo). The Doctor also removed an ovarian cyst that he saw while he was in there - we weren't planning to do that, but I'm glad he did. We were expecting him to have to do a bladder repair as well,(cystocele repair for a prolapsed bladder) but he said once he took the uterus out, the bladder went right back up to normal position - woo-hoo!)
I feel great for the most part. I was in the hospital overnight and released the next day. Pain was nominal at best. I think the gas pains from the CO2 in the abdominal cavity were the worst of it. My belly button / abdomen was tender for a couple days - like when you do too many sit-ups. I feel fine now. I was told no driving 1-2 wks (I could drive once off all pain meds - although DH says no driving until I'm cleared after my 2 week checkup). Obviously, no baths, showering is fine. No lifting etc and be careful when walking out side - not to slip on ice etc. Walking is fine - he even told me I could go shopping two days after being released from the hospital as long as I didn't carry anything. I didn't feel quite up to it at that point - I was still tired, but did make two outings in the first week- one to Target and one to Starbucks. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any more questions - I'd be happy to help if I can.
Good luck to you - try to remain calm and remember that the more stress you create in your body, the more you will have to overcome. Have faith! Good luck - Freshman422
