Pre-Op Hormone Testing?
I am going to have a Hysterectomy and removal of both ovaries due to severe endo. My Lap Surgery
showed my left side stuck together with adhesions. My Dr. said my left ovary and uterus are
adhesed to my bowels which means my uterus is very tilted also. I am 41 years old and
concerned about going into menopause so soon.
Does anyone know if you can be tested for your hormone balance in advance so that post-op
hormone therapy is more accurate? Will taking estrogen after surgery encourage the regrowth
of endo?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Debbie

Pre-Op Hormone Testing?
I'm not positive about this, however, at one point I was asking about hormone testing and was told it isn't really very accurate. There are dozens of things that can affect the result, have a period is one. Who knows what constant bleeding can do.
I wouldn't worry about getting the right amount after surgery. If you listen to your body, give feedback to the doctor, and work together you will arrive at what it is your body needs. Doctor's know in general at what level to start a woman on depending on her age etc. Be sure to ask how soon you could expect the product you are taking to start working. Some ladies expect it too soon and some wait around too long being uncomfortable. Pay attention to how you feel, report back and ask questions, work with your doctor post-op. The products are made in various dosage levels just for the fact that the level sometimes needs to be adjusted, increased for one lady or decreased for another.
Best of luck to you,
Miranda

Pre-Op Hormone Testing?
Hi Debbie!
A good place to start learning about HRT and its effects on endo is to use our search engine (top of each page) and search "endo". Also look for posts from our hostesses Kaatie and Adrite...they are knowledgable about this issue.
I know that many doctors will wait several months after surgery to begin HRT when there is endo present...because HRT can cause endo to reoccur in some women. There is a great deal of information here for you; please also read on the Hormone Jungle and No Hormone Desert Oasis forums for more help.
I also had pretty extensive adhesions...they can cause all kinds of pain and problems. I hope that you find some answers to your questions...we'll help as much as we can!!
