any activity that should be avoided?
I am 8 months post op and I was just wondering is there any activity that should be avoided after a hysterectomy? I have been reading some things that say we should not do sit ups or deep wide leg squats. I know we really should not ever lift heavy. I have a friend that has had a hysterectomy and she says she does everything she did before surgery. I was just wondering what anyone else thinks about this and what have you heard and do? I guess after reading about certain things not to do I am a bit nerveous about causing a prolapse. Does everyone who has a hysterectomy end up with a prolapse? Am I just being worried about nothing or is there a reason to be extra cautious?

Re: any activity that should be avoided?
Can't help - but would love to know the answer(s) myself!
I'm fairly long term, at 6 1/2 months, and feel capable of everything. I do almost everything except crunches. I remember something about how to avoid prolapes, but would also like more detail, if anyone knows!

Re: any activity that should be avoided?
My opinion from information I have gathered is that much normal activity can be resumed BUT it is important to rebuild pelvic floor strength first to support organs. My hysterectomy was also a prolapse repair and I am absolutely not allowed any squats or crunches/planks or weight lifting at this time. I am working with a pelvic PT who is just wanting to work on the pelvic floor and vaginal tone before we even consider going any further. I am also on a 20lb or less weight limit. I am almost 14 weeks post op.

Re: any activity that should be avoided?
I think resuming activities may depend on what surgery/repairs you had. I had DvH for endometrial cancer and was told at my 6 week appt. that all my restrictions were now lifted. I specifically asked about doing core exercises and they said they were OK but I was to start again as if I had never done any before. I don't know anything about the risk for prolapse and would like to know more about that.

Re: any activity that should be avoided?
Thank you for your response. I don't understand much about the prolapse risk either and I hope we can find out more here. I was told by my doctor I could resume normal activity too, but then after reading some things I was a bit scared. I had a LAVH in July 2011. I am feeling pretty good. Still have just a bit of "down there" issues, but I think it is still healing I guess.
