Returning to work after total abdominal hysterectomy?

I am curious for those who had TAH how many weeks before you were back to desk job. Assuming no complications, wondering the typical time off. I also was wondering if worked half days, if so for how long before full-time.

I seem to have good days then a step back for days. Definitely hard to gauge.

I took my Surgeon's suggestion and took the full 8 weeks off. I recommend it to anyone witnTAH. Even after 8 weeks the first couple weeks back were tough. I had an office job, but sitting upright for 8 hours a day was tough.

Back at 5weeks. Normally at desk for around 10 hours per day, no issues at all. Had an easy recovery mind you, was also back to doing around 5 zumba classes per week at 5 weeks. Consultant said it was fine.

Everyone is different so I guess there is no right or wrong.........

I also had an easy recovery and went back at 3 weeks. I didn't have the exhaustion after the first week. I felt good from the beginning and was very active, so it wasn't difficult for me going back.

I took 7 weeks off. I work in an office for 9 hours a day and was just too tired before then and couldn't sit for long periods without pain for about 6 weeks. My doctor and my husband did not want me to rush back , so if you can take a little extra time to let yourself feel your best when you do return.

I went back to a part-time desk job at four weeks with restrictions on lifting 30-40 lb boxes in the archives area. The boxes had to wait until six weeks.

My biggest obstacle to running to work was that I walk a mile and a half to get there, including a steep hill. Once I was confident that I could make the walk and still get some work done once I got there, I asked my doc for clearance to return.

I work 16 hour shifts and I am supposed to go back next week. My surgery was 9/18. I am nervous about going back to being on my feet and lifting patients at 3.5 weeks. I see my doctor next week before I'm supposed to go back.

No way you should even consider lifting at 3.5 weeks! I don't know what your job is, but surely you should be on restricted duties?

That sounds like a danger to both you and the patients. What if you drop one because you weren't ready to lift that much? And a 16 hour shift is a long, long time. What happens if you make errors that harm patients because you're exhausted?
