Everyone has an opinion on my ovaries HELP!!

I am 35 due to have full abdominal hysterectomy in 6 weeks
GYN says he is happy to leave ovaries
GP is not
Mum currently being tested for BCAR gene as she has had breast cancer twice with strong family history
GP feels it would be better for me to have ovaries out as precaution
Do I then go into full menopause?
HRT is not an option for me
So I am confused!!

Re: Everyone has an opinion on my ovaries HELP!!

Everyone has an opinion, so it is best that you ask the experts.
Before I did anything, I would go to a gyn/oncologist.

Since you have family history of cancers, your gp has a point.
On the other hand, once you remove the ovaries, it is final.

Check with a gyn/oncologist and ask if you can wait to remove your ovaries.

You are young enough to take a risk for a 2nd surgery down the line for your ovaries if need be.

If you have your hysterectomy, and the doctor doesn't find much cancer, then instruct your gyn.oncologist to leave your ovaries.
If he finds cancer then you may want to take the ovaries out too.

On the other hand, I had ovaries that were causing me pain for years, so I felt o.K. about getting them out.

I hate the idea, but I am 55. You are much younger.

Good Luck.

Re: Everyone has an opinion on my ovaries HELP!!

I was told if he takes out my ovaries I go into full menopause. The decision is ultimately up to you. I know it is a difficult one.

Re: Everyone has an opinion on my ovaries HELP!!

My ovaries are healthy so my gyn said it would be better for me to keep them, especially since I'm only 40. My surgeon agreed. So, I kept them I am happy with this decision because I feel it's best to let my body do things naturally if possible...plus forced menopause comes with its own risks.

Re: Everyone has an opinion on my ovaries HELP!!

Alimini-There is no need for me to take any hormones. My ovaries will still produce them. I will continue to ovulate...until natural menopause hits. I even experienced PMS last week. LOL. My surgeon said I probably would. But, it was much easier to deal with knowing there would be no period after! LOL

Are you too able to be tested for the gene prior to making a final decision?
