Surgery In 30 Days :(

Hi, although I am registered as MMS my name is Monica.
I am new to this site and this is my first attempt to reach other hyster sisters out there. I have 30 days to go, surgery scheduled for 10/28/02 (TAH and bladder tack). I have mixed emotions about this whole ordeal, feel like my womanhood is being stolen from me. Is this normal??

Welcome to HysterSisters!!

I'm very glad that you found us, because one of the first things I want to do is to let you know that your emotions are not uncommon. Although I didn't feel that way (probably because I was going into menopause anyway), a lot of women do have that feeling for awhile.

But, please, please try to remember that you are not your uterus. It is only a body part, and it's become sick, and needs to come out in order for you to once again have a good quality of life.

Welcome on board Monica! I'm glad that you found this site - it is such a wonderful support system! I, too, am scheduled for 10/28/02 TAH. Your emotions are so very understood here - you are not being overly sensitive and you have valid fears. I have had some similar issues, but more on the side of combating years of thinking I was just getting fat and lazy, when my uterus has turned out to be the size of a 4 month preggie!! You are a wonderful individual - and the size of your ear lobes, the mole on your elbow or the absence of a uterus does not diminish who you have become. This is another fork in the journey of life, and I have hopes that it will hold many years of relief for both of us. You have worked so very hard to become who you are and to get where you are - what courage you have for making the decision to heal yourself! You have all our support, and I hope that this site continues to bring you comfort and reassurance that you deserve! Good luck to you and we will count down the days together! I go in at 8 am on 10/28. You??
