Hi Jennifer,

I'm sorry you aren't feeling well. Please call your doctor to see what you are allowed to take. None of us are medical personnel and don't know your medical history or what would be safe for you to take this close to surgery.

I hope you feel better soon.

Jennifer,I got sick the week before I was to have surgery.I called my dr. and she told me I could take cold medicine for it because if I was even the slightest bit sick that the anesthesiaolygist would not put me under to do my surgery.I knocked it out with some corricedine(which is about all I can take being on thyroid meds)I was thankful because I had planned my whole life at that time around that day(as all of us have done).Anyway call your dr. and start taking whatever she will let you so you have plenty of time to get rid of it.Good luck.

My Story

Hi, all. I had a TAH/BSO on 8/1/02, but my next visit to the OR happens this Wednesday for a triple hernia repair. (It apparently is a pre-existing condition not caused by the hysterectomy.) On Saturday while in traffic school, I caught a whopper of a cold! Yesterday the on-call physician told me a head cold isn't a counter-indication to surgery (a hernia repair is also done under general anesthesia). He recommended Claritin, and I'm also trying to down 10 cups of herbal, non-decaffeinated tea.

I'm not a doctor, and really have no idea whether the surgeon will kick me out of the OR on Wednesday. This surgery has been postponed once already due to peritonitis of all things! Of course, according to the on-call physician, peritonitis is systemic.

For me, this may turn out to be cliffhanger but if you've got two weeks to go, you've got quite a while to take care of your situation. But if I were you, I would contact my doctor.
