Surgery has been postponed!!! :(

Well, I was supposed to have my abdominal hysterectomy this last Tuesday...due to financial difficulty, it has been postponed! Sooo, I guess the waiting game starts over again! I am so ready to get this over with! The pain is really getting to be a drag! It's constant and getting worse as the days go by. I don't really know what to do, but my doctor doesn't want me to get hooked on pain pills so he prescribes them 25 at a time and that is supposed to last me all month apparently! I understand why, I just don't know how he thinks ibuprofen and tylenol and aleve is supposed to help when I'm working, doing college, and have 4 kids, a husband and house to manage at the same time!! I'm about ready to pull my hair out!! Okay, I'm done venting now...I guess I'll go to bed now, I had to take a sleeping pill in order to get tired enough to where the pain is at least dulled enough to sleep.

Re: Surgery has been postponed!!! :(

oh Brandy I know you are really disappointed in the delay! Getting your pills in small quantities would add to the frustration too. You have a lot of responsibility in your family, and it's good that you know why the doc is so meager in his script. That's so good of you. I'd be onto him like an enraged tiger.

Take the meds and try to make them last. Is there a part of the day that isn't as painful? Maybe you can stretch the meds during that time. For me, evenings are the worst and I HAVE to have something then so I can get a good nights sleep. I would skip the morning medications because it was bearable then.

I hope you can endure until your surgery comes up. Have you got a new date yet? Having a date to look forward to might help, knowing that it ain't gonna be forever.

Re: Surgery has been postponed!!! :(

I'm so sorry. I would agree about keeping on your doc to get effective pain management and seeing how you can space out the Nsaids for maximum effectiveness.
I know that stress can exacerbate pain. If there is any way you can take time for yourself---warm baths, a massage (look for a massage therapy school near you...sometimes they offer free massages as part of student training!), or just an afternoon to yourself.

I hope you get your date soon. Hang in there.
