Pain Meds?
What kind of pain meds do you get while in the hospital? What kind do they send you home with? I can't take codeine meds so wondering what my options are in the med dept.

Pain Meds?
I'm also allergic to codiene, they put me on the morphine pump but had a bad reaction , the best results were with the voltaren suppositories in combination with paracetamol. At home I took a few diagesics and ibruofen and panadol together. I guess I was lucky didn't need anything after a few days.
Goodluck with your surgery and remember it is ok to use pain meds if needed, your body doesn't recover well when in pain

Pain Meds?
If you have sensitivities to meds, I would talk to my doc ahead of time. Also, let the anaesthesia doc know before you are taken into surgery.
There are many options for pain relief, so it's best to discuss it with your doc. I had a PCA pump with morphine for the first 2 days post op. I also had to be given constant anti-nausea meds to counteract the effects of the morphine. Once the pump was removed, I took Tylenol 3 and naproxen. This is what I went home with.
I was told pre-op that I could have an epidural which would have been used after for pain meds as well. I chose not to use this option, as I was afraid of the epidural.
