Still constipated after 4 weeks???

Talk to you doc, it could have something to do with diet. Make sure you are drinking water, as much as possible. Not water-based drinks like iced tea or mixes, but just good 'ol plain water. Up your fiber intake, fresh fruits and veggies, that could help until you talk to your doc.

Thank's Vega, for your advice. I thought I was doing pretty good as far as my water intake goes but I'll try to add a little more fiber to the bunch. Annette.

Still constipated after 4 weeks???

I complained to my doc at my 6 week checkup about the same thing and he asked me if i was still taking the stool softners. I said yes but didn't see that they were doing much good. then he asked me how much just plain water i was drinking-about 32-40 ounces a day. Not enough was his answer-if you take stool softners you need at least 64 ounces of just plain water along with good fiber intake or you will lplug yourself up like concrete-so i did as he said and now i just keep going and going and going......but i feel better. hope this helps. make sure you talk to your doc about this-he may have other helpful hints or suggestions as well. hope you feel better soon.

Still constipated after 4 weeks???

Hi, I'm at 3 1/2 weeks post op and I was asking myself the same question. I was starting to think that I traded painful periods for constipation. Anyway, this is what I do and I poop about every 2-3 days, not as often as I'd like but not too uncomfortable.
I drink Citrucel with OJ in the morning, I take stool softeners and as much fiber in my diet as I can get - read those labels! I try to drink lots but how much water can a body take? Exercise helps too, but we need to be careful here, I've already overdone it once. Feel better!

Still constipated after 4 weeks???

It took me some weeks, nearer 6 or 7 to begin to be normal with BMs. I took stool softener, drank water, ate fruit, you name it. I think the surgery messes around with those insides and it takes a while.
