narcotic pain meds before surgery

Thanks for all the replies. I actually did as the doctor and she said I could take them up until 5:00am the morning of surgery.

I have been taking Norco which is a narcotic and 800mg Ibuprofen. I was told to stop the Ibuprofen today (one week before my surgery) and not to take aspirin either. I can take the Norco and tylenol until midnight before before my surgery.

I am on narcotics for my chronic pain issues for years now and took mine through my surgery with additional ones post-op for a few weeks. Am back to baseline narcotics now and so given all that can tell you this; abruptly stopping narcotics can lead to other problems and there is no 'one size fits all' answer here. It is absolutely essential that you talk to your doctor about this and have a clear plan for the management of your medication regime before, during and after your surgery. You will be glad you did rather than feeling lousy or second guessing every pain or twinge with the idea of your meds being related to it or not.
