Not all recoveries are bad...

I've been reading posts both here and on the pre-op side and it seems like we are hearing about the negative side of recovery. I am here to tell you that its not always as bad as you think it might be

I had my TAH on June 29th, and within hours of surgery the nurses had my up and going. I won't lie the first time getting up hurt alot but it was do-able, I also ended up getting sick twice that night which was no cake walk but again it sounds worse then it was. I made sure to keep active in the sense of getting up and getting water every hour, when I came home I wore my binder to bed and had an extra kitchen chair beside my bed that I used as a support to get out of bed. I am now doing everything I did before surgery and in fact more... I have more energy and I can comfortably sleep on my belly again, I've been seeing a personal trainer and I'm getting stronger all the time!!! Sex with hubby is great and when I asked him if he noticed a difference he said no, that to him everything was the same

So to my sisters reading this on the pre-op side know that it is ok to be nervous & scared but it's not always the 'worst' case scenario. To my sisters on the post-op side I say hang in there, things will get better. I remember even with how good I was feeling I had some emotional days and many days I felt like the walls were closing in around me.

Time passes so quickly and I have to sometimes remind myself it was only a few months ago I had major surgery.

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

I have to agree, I am having a positive recovery, no sickness, very little pain, been walking since day 2. I have not taken any pain medication. I have tons of energy and feeling just wonderful I am at day 15

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

Thanks for posting these great updates. I agree that everywhere you look pre op you can find lots of bad news. All of the people I spoke with said it was the best thing they ever did (all friends and acquaintances). I am 6 days post op and hope my recovery is a great one too.

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

It's human nature to not post if there are no problems, I guess.

I too am having an easy recovery. Was awake & chatting with everyone on day one, walking on day two, released on day three, getting stronger by the day ever since.

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

I have had the best recovery. I am @ a point where I don't know how far post op I am......let's see, this coming Tuesday will be 7 weeks. I went back to work @ week 2. I was driving on day 1 but regreted that, duh, but started again @ day 4
Outercourse was great, and last week bf and I had sex and it was awesome. However when I asked if he noticed a difference he said yes, he can feel my orgasms better awesomeness!!

So yeah they aren't all bad or even a little good, mine has been fabulous, I didn't even bleed or spot
Good luck sisters!!

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

I have had a very good recovery as well , The only issues I have had is a UTI which is gone , some bladder spasms which are going to go away eventually and the whole blood vessel thing..but as far as how I feel , I feel good , Lots of energy that I can't use at the moment..lol but it to shall come! Now I am ready for the next stages , Getting back in to the "saddle" so to speak! HEHE!

Re: Not all recoveries are bad...

Campergurl,,,,I just did the same thing,,,posted on the hyster stories forum for positive recovery. It is so hard to find the "good" stories unless you are determined to find them.,,,Can make for a scarey decision to make if all you can find is the "unfortunate". Hopefully many will see our sides and be more at ease for what can come from the surgery.
