8 weeks Post Hysterectomy Bleeding

Concerned with very red blood on paper after urinating. First time blood started was at 6 weeks post op after intercourse. It was heavier then and I saw the surgeon the next day. He examined me and said everything was fine but now at 7 1/2 weeks post op still red blood when wiping. Also when I have to urinate I feel stomach pain. Along with the blood I have a heavy dark discharge that I never had before. I did also tell dr this but again he said nothing to worry about. Am I overreacting?

Re: 8 weeks Post Hysterectomy Bleeding

I don't think you're overreacting. At 8 weeks, it's possible to still be spotting, but it's usually due to slow healing or granulation (scar tissue which is preventing proper healing). Even if you were cleared, tissues are still tender and if you had granulation, intercourse might have irritated or loosened it. Has your bleeding has lessened since intercourse 2 weeks ago? The fact that it's bright red indicates fresh bleeding which has to be coming from somewhere. A little more detail on what can be causing the bleeding is in the article Bleeding or Spotting with Sex After Hysterectomy.

You're now also noticing other changes - stomach pains and the additional discharge. When did you talk to your doctor last? In my mind, these changes combined with your original concern would have me insisting on being seen again. If your gyn/surgeon won't see you, try your GP. Meanwhile, try to take it easy and rest. If you notice the bleeding worsening, don't hesitate to go to the ER. You'd rather have it checked out than have something going wrong.
