Hi I am new and a bit scared

Hi
I am scheduled for surgery on the 19/2 due to a pro longed history of cervical changes. My smears have been dodgy for about 10 years and my gynae now says it time to act after laser, cone biopsies etc.
I have five children so dont want anymore and am comfortable with the need for surgery but that doesnt make it any easier.I am still breast feeding my twin girls who are four months old and stopping that is proving difficult.Whilst I know it sounds ridiculous loosing the ability to have more children is a huge issue to me. I am 43 and in reality I have been lucky to have had the opportunity to enjoy four happy healthy pregnancies but it doesnt make having the choice to have more taken away.
I will loose my ovaries as part of the procedure and am a bit vague as to weher that means I need to stop breast feeding. The hospital seem keen for me not to be taking the girls in with me and say I will find it difficult to continue to feed.Is that for their convenience or fact.
I am looking forward to getting to know you all and grateful for any advice you can give.
Love Claire

Hi I am new and a bit scared

I think the problem with breast feeding would be that you will be so sore moving yourself around would be difficult enough, but trying to position babies to breast feed without injuring yourself in the process would be difficult at best. The other issue you will have is in lifting the babies, because usually after a hysto you have a 5 lb lifting restriction for the first few weeks. Have you set up someone helping you after surgery? You will definately need it.
You might talk to a lactation expert and see if the hospital could let you pump while you are in there. But holding them will be a problem.

Hi I am new and a bit scared

I agree with Mz Tiny and also you have to think of the anethisia (sp) that will be in your system, plus the pain meds...they don't want that getting into your babies. I would pump as much as possible and freeze it. After your surgery, they're not going to want you to breastfeed for awhile until all the medicines are out of your body, so what you pump off from that will have to be discarded.

Definately check with your doctor and the hospital.

Hi I am new and a bit scared

Hi Thanks
Its kind of what I thought its just I am day three of trying to stop and my boobs are killing me,Ive just spent an hour in the bath and the milk is pouring out.I sort of hoped someone would say dont worry just carry on feeding it will be fine.
We have a great nanny so help afterwards is not a problem. How long is it likley to be before I feel fairly normal and do you get given HRT straight away.
Thanks Claire x

I am 3 weeks out and actually I felt good 2 days after I came home, but just because you FEEL good, doesn't mean you can do things you did before. It's good that you have a great nanny to help you because you will need it.

My dr. didn't put me on any HRT until my 2 week checkup because he wanted to check to see where my hormone levels were at that time. I think it depends alot on your doctor...you might check with them and see.

I wish you the best of luck!!!!
