My pre op is today

I have had a long wait and I kind of tried to put my upcoming surgery out of mind. Well today is my pre op and my nerves are getting the best of me. I couldn't sleep last night and I keep thinking I am going to forget to ask some of my questions today. I think I will make a list.

I really don't have a lot of preparations to do as my dh is taking a week off of work to take care of me. Our kids are grown and out of the house so I don't really have any extra chores to do, our house stays pretty clean and neat. I think if I had more to do it would help keep my mind off of everything that could go wrong.
I guess I am just venting off some of my nervous energy by posting. Prayers and good thoughts to the women having surgery this week.

All your feelings are normal. My pre-op was a week ago and now I'm post surgery and feeling pretty good. Good luck and hugs.

My pre op is today

Thanks for the prayers ladies. I think my pre op seems a little early compared to most as my surgery is still about 3 weeks away. I will have more time to sit and wait lol.

Good luck with your appointment and surgery tomorrow Terrilyn.

I am glad you are feeling pretty good Wink42. I hope I am feeling that way 1 week post op.

Re: My pre op is today

I had two weeks between my pre-op and my surgery. That was fine by me because my pre-op was at my local hospital rather than my surgery hospital. I figured two weeks might be enough time for my test results to get from one hospital to another!

Since you don't have to worry about prepping your house, how about entertainment options while you're recovering? For example if there's a craft you've been meaning to learn that you can do while sitting, this might be a good time to acquire supplies and instruction materials so that you'll have them to hand after surgery.

Re: My pre op is today

I just wanted to mention to all you pre-op ladies stock up on something to keep you occupied after surgery. Even though you will be happy surgery is over, boredom will set in fast. Be prepared.

Great idea! I do need to make sure I have some books to read and movies to watch. I am planning on keeping my diet pretty simple the first week as that seems to be what most are saying worked well. I like yogurt and cottage cheese, crackers, toast, and soups.

This site has been a Godsend. Thanks for your suggestions.

Re: My pre op is today

My appointment went well and my doctor took a lot of time with me to make sure all of my questions were answered. I found out I will have a pain pump after surgery and Percocet and Ibuprofen at discharge. There is a good chance I will be coming home with a catheter because I am having a bladder sling procedure. My doctor is doing the hysterectemy and another specialist recommended by him is doing the sling and rectocele repair. I feel so much better after talking with him today. He told me that if his wife needed this type of surgery that this doctor would be his first choice. I have another pre op with the other doctor next week and I need to get blood work and an EKG. Next week is going to be busy with all of the appointments.
It will be great to finally have everything working as it should again down there. I just need to get through this. I really do trust my doctor so I just need to keep the faith. This site has been a lifesaver.
