So when does Menopause start?
I had a full hysterectomy three weeks ago and do not feel any different. Aside from one episode in the hospital I thought might have been a heat flash, I have only had a few episodes at night time where I get hot and sweaty. Will it hit me later or is this basically it?
In fact I have felt more cold than hot.

So when does Menopause start?
My doc told me it started right after surgery. I didnt have a warm flash for the first few weeks either. Then, around 8 weeks is when my hair started to thin...Also, I am WITH YOU on the being cold, LOL. I even had my thyroid tested. I would think that you are probably not going to have it as bad as alot of gals. But, expect the "changes" for a few months.

So when does Menopause start?
Hi Denise
Mine started with a few warm moments through the night about week 4. Then they got earlier & started late evening, then early evening, then mid afternoon, then lunchtime, then in the morning.
As you can gather I get them just about all day on and off but the night times are the worst :-( I wake up because I am so hot, throw all the covers off & wake again because I am frozen - at least 3 times - so I am not getting much sleep.
And we don't seem able to get the right HRT for me yet so I am very tired :-(
Hope this doesn't happen to you ladies
Hugs
Katy

So when does Menopause start?
This is a great question; I've been wondering about this myself. I'm not sure what to expect, so I don't know what to prepare myself for. I can't say that I have felt "menopausal" just yet.
Katy, I hope that you can finally find the right dosage of your HRT. It has taken me literally years to get all of my kidney meds right, and even know my doc tinkers with them from time to time. On the one hand, you have to be patient enough to give the new dosage time to work, yet on the other hand, you don't want to suffer for an unnecessarily long time, particularly when your problem is sleep difficulties. It's really hard to know what to do! But know that I am thinking of you and am eager to know when you finally get some relief!

So when does Menopause start?
I too had what I called warm flashes for the first few weeks. They gradually developed into hot flashes then night sweats. I was trying to do without HRT, so I just tried some over- the-counter supplements. I wasn't sleeping too well, but I wanted to give it a fair try. Then at about11-12 weeks I started having anxiety attacks. I just felt so edgy and jumpy I really couldn't stand it--called the doc, started HRT. Feeling much better. still have a few "warm flashes" but I'm sleeping well and the anxiety attacks are gone. C'est la vie!

I believe I have heard that the body does not deplete all the estrogen for a few months... Then you can also have estrogen from the "fat" around the middle ... I had already gone thru menopause prior to surgery, so for me it was not much of a change... But I did get the "chills" you speak of... I think that is from the trauma of surgery...
Best to you.

So when does Menopause start?
Everybody's different, it can depend on how much hormones are stored in fat, how many hormones your body was producing pre surgery and other factors. I read of one case in my research that said hot flashes hit one person in the recovery room!
My symptoms hit 5 days post surgery. Intense hot flushes that have now become more warm-ups, night sweats that range from waking me up to just making me toss off covers (bought the Chillow from the hyster store), mood swings (enhanced by post surgery blues), headaches (for 3 days until my body must have gotten used to no more hormones, panic / anxiety attack tension in my chest.
Here's hoping you don't have anything more than you have!

So when does Menopause start?
Hi,
I don't think there are any hard and fast rules for when the menopause starts post-op. everybody has a different story to tell. I had a TAH and I'm now 7 weeks Post-op. I initially had night sweats for the first two weeks post-op and then they stopped. So I thought hurrah I'm not in the menopause (I'm 35), but the sweats have started up again the last week. So I'm feeling a little sad. I only feel anxious when I think about work, I've been off work for 7 weeks and dr has signed me off for another 5 weeks. Prior to the Op I was given an injection of Prostap to stop my hormones to shrink fibroids and endo so I was in a false menopause. I'm not sure if the Pro-stap is still in my system along with all the drugs from the Op. I wasn't prepared for going through the menopause, the plan was to keep one of my ovaries but my gynae surgeon couldnt keep any of my ovaries. I'm having blood tests end of January to see if I am in menopause and then decide if I need HRT. So as each day passes I'm trying to prepare myself for the results and possibly having to take HRT for a number of years.

So when does Menopause start?
I was wondering the same thing too. I am 5 weeks post-op. I was sweating bad in the hospital but 2 days after my surgery is when I started HRT. So far ok. My chest and joints have increasingly getting sore. Only 2x had crying bits but was triggered from being sad over something I watched once and just being frustrated about being sore and ache. I was planning on talking to my doctor at my 6 week check up. Had a really bad headache I couldn't get rid of last night also. Good luck to all!
