2 days pre-op nervous

Hi. I just found this site this morning. I am scheduled for TAH on Monday. As I read through the site, I hear stories of women having severe pain and flooding periods. I am not in severe pain, but I have very large fibroids, causing my uterus to be the size of a 20 week pregnant person. and growing. It is definitely uncomfortable, but not "painful". Plus I do have between period bleeding (not a lot, but some).

So now I am questioning the surgery at all. Probably "wedding day" jitters, but ...

Anyone have a situation like mine? What did you do?

Thanks for your support and advice.

Re: 2 days pre-op nervous

Welcome, you and I are probably in the minority as we had so little time between being scheduled and surgery day. I was scheduled on Thurs for this coming Monday. In a way, i think we are lucky ... Although we have less time prepare we ave less time to panic or change our minds, we get done what we can and the rest will fall into place. Somehow.

However, notwithstanding the time between scheduling and surgery, i don't think you will define anyone on here that does not have the jitters or more! So we will just march in like little brave (or not so brave) soldiers!!!

There are soe very good threads here about gettng prepared ..i a off to buy a pillow pet and one of those bed trays with legs!!!

Good luck to you! I hadn't heard about getting a pillow pet, but i bought my husband one of those trays for Christmas -a self-serving gift!

Re: 2 days pre-op nervous

Trust me.. Mine was "just fibroids too" but they may .. Like mine ... Start causing heavier and longer periods .. Clotting ... Led to anaemia .. Blood transfusions ... Almost passing out. I don't there there is any "just" about it ... Just that i never should have put it off!!

Re: 2 days pre-op nervous

I am so happy read that there are others that are "just like me". I have several fibroids one being slightly larger than an orange. These fibroids cause heavy bleeding during periods and my periods last 7-9 days. I am also pretty anemic (always between a 5-9). But all of this has been going on with me for almost 9 years (I had 3 children in 29 months-I thought it was normal to bleed like that I guess). I can definately feel some pressure that can be uncomfortable at times and I have to go to the bathroom often (thought that was from having kids too). My symptoms are nothing excruciating and untolerable but I was recommended to have a TAH. I scheduled surgery for Dec 17 but cancelled, I scheduled surgery for Dec 31 and cancelled that one too. I feel at this point it's not life threatening and I'm still fairly young (just turned 30). There is no guarantee what kind of side affects may come of surgery, but if there are negative ones I'd have to deal with that for the rest of my life. But part of me just wants surgery so I don't have to worry about embarrassing amounts of blood gushing out of me and I kinda welcome 6 wks of rest and the thought of the family taking over for a bit.
I have been reading everything I can on fibroids to help me make the decision to have surgery or not to. I normally love my sodas and not so healthy way of eating but have decided to drastically change my diet (very hard but I'm doing good so far) in hopes of controlling the growth. I have also read about certain herbal things to try as well as acupuncture to try to reduce size of fibroids (still skeptical about all that-kinda undecided).
Because I am so wishy-washy about surgery and it not being life threatening as of now, I have decided to monitor the fibroids by ultrasound and just take one month at a time. My next ultrasound is March 4th, I cannot wait but yet I can.
You are the only one who can make that final decision (wish it was easier to make!!). I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts, comments and advice and I'm sending goog thoughts and wishes your way

Re: 2 days pre-op nervous

Thank you for your thoughts. It is so nice to have a forum to get such great input. I am probably going to go forward with the surgery; Iam 44 and don't want to wait for them to get larger and to have more awful symptoms. I still welcome other thoughts!

Re: 2 days pre-op nervous

Hardin .. I am not a doc but i think you are wrong about one thing .. The fibroids cause excessive bleeding and the bleeding causes anaemia ..and that means you are putting a strain on your heart.. Not good!!
. Good Lord i could barely get from bed to bath when i was at 6.3, i cannot imagine how you function at 5!
My doc said yes we can try to shrink but honestly it's just delaying the inevitable!!
